Been sporting Nova Launcher since it first came on the scene as a beta as well as an Android fan since the Droid 1 days. I'm sure I'll be having loads of fun with this unit.

Just wanting clarification of wether or not you purchased the extra wireless dongle they offered and this made it “built in.” No need to be a Richard.

Well in that case, no extra was needed idk why it’s an option when it’s built it.

Looks interesting. There is one thing I think i a big con for this unit: no vol knob. For a car unit, it should have at least a volume knob. (I know you can do this from the steering wheel controls, still needs a knob though).

Otherwise looks pretty cool. What does the “USB 3.0” option do? USB-C at all?

6GB RAM is certainly an upgrade from the 4GB in the other units. I've found that RAM is the most important thing when switching back and fourth between apps to keep them from redrawing.

I'm seeing the unit has it's own mic embedded in it. Is it possible to run an external mic if you already have one like the typical ones that come with most double din units with the 3.5mm jack? Also, what's the connectivity like? I only see a single pair of RCAs on the back of that wiring harness.

PS: For second gens, why do all of these dash pieces come in gloss black? It's the worst possible color. Especially since most of the Tacoma dashes were matte gray.

Also, can you map steering wheel controls to make the volume work on up/down vs left right?

The volume knob is a pro and con. But there’s another model android unit that has the knob.

Got mine yesterday and installed. I'd say the only troublesome part was modifying my stock brackets and finding an uncorrupted apkt of the latest Android Auto to download and install (being I'm an Android user).
All in all in very happy with the unit. Now comes the issue of maintaining an internet connection (which I'm sure activating my Note 20 Ultra's hit spot should fix).

Do you know if you lose any functionality if you are out of cell phone range?

Haven't had an issue yet (I'm with TMo). Now when I hit the trails I'm sure I will, but I'll be mostly using my Garmin and other devices for that.

Yeah. That's what I was wondering. Is there anything locally installed or does it need reception. Report back!

It needs reception for internet usage, but maintains a constant connection with satellite via gps.

    As far as? Maps? Music?

you can download offline maps, I’ve done this for Google and Gaia maps.

I’m positive the factory headunit is an offline map as well as nothing was interactive and live updates for traffic etc.

I am assuming you are involved with this company based on your posts... I have a few questions

    1) I have a 2nd gen... Is this pretty much the same unit, just designed for 2nd gens? https://cartrimhome.com/Android-Car-Multimedia-Navigation-Tacoma-2005-2015

    2) Just to confirm, no extra adapter needed for the back up camera and steering wheel controls, right?

    3) I have an android (pixel 3) does this need any adapters to work for android auto? or do i need the usb 3.0 adapter?

    4) Next phone will likely be an iphone, if so, can i buy the adapter later?

    5) How much is the discount code good for?

    thanks for your help

Not involved and on the 2nd gen i can’t help much as i don’t have any experience on it. I’m only sharing my personal experience on the 3rd gen. My goal wasn’t to come off as a sales man for the headunit yet only to share the info. I drove around for the first 2 years of owning my truck and hating the headunit, but couldn’t justify spending $1k plus on a headunit and meistro unit to get something that didn’t fit fully, or didn’t look factory.

So i felt if i got out there and answer the questions i had before that others were not sharing that i would help someone else make the choice and save them the headache. But now i still 100% believe for the 3rd gen this is the head headunit out there.
