Todays oil pressure gauges are bullshit anyways, they're now buffered because they don't need the service dept filled up with bullshit complaints. They sure do make do make Powerstroke Paul feel special about spending $80k on a truck

Very true. Case in point... A few months ago, on my old-timey 95' Dodge B2500 van, the 'Check Engine' light came on. It has a full set of gauges. When the light came on, a quick glance at the gauges, told me 'Well, everything looks still OK .. So I'll still kept driving the 200 miles I needed to get home..'
When I got home, I pulled the code and found it was the EGR valve not working right. I replaced it and now all is good.
But point being is, without the gauges and having the CE light come on, who knows WHAT that might have been? It might have been a dozen different things. At least with gauges, you know you have vital functions and can make the decision of 'Do I keep going, or do I shut it down?'

Yeah, gauges ... Who needs them, right? All I need is the 'ding-ding-DING-DING' of the dash telling me my seat-belt isn't locked just right.
Or the door isn't fully shut. Or maybe the 'Rodger Rabbit' cartoon hammer popping out of the dash, hitting me on the head, reminding me to 'Get Gas' ...
    Yes... Gauges... Totally worthless.

    Ha you guys are hilarious.

But seriously I knew my alternator was taking a crap on my 99 ranger from

The sound of it if you've ever had an alternator start to crap out

    Confirmed with the battery gauge

Man, you guys are writing some novels in here. With the thought and time that went into your dissertations, maybe you should present your defense before a collegiate panel. I bet you could earn yourselves a degree out of it. :cookiemonster:

Same stuff i used for 20k oil changes in my 2001 tundra. I even used to do 20k oil changes with plain old mobil 1 synthetic before they offered the extended stuff.

The Ultra is one of the finest filters you can buy.

I did a 1k and 5k then 10k oil change and now falling into the 10k cycle. Yeah the opinions were maybe it’s overkill. It’s 40 bucks each time. I’d rather be overkill and be wrong than the opposite.

I miss doing the oil changes on my second gen, it was a sport so no skid plate to remove, filter on top of engine, easier than my third gen for sure. On that truck I did the initial change at 1500 miles, then at 3K mile intervals with mobil 1 full syn up to 110 k and sold it. Now on my third gen, decided to go with 5K intervals, prob not needed but it makes me feel better and I can afford it. Oh, and I might be a candidate for severe service, do a lot of in town driving, tow my boat in the summer, and the truck only sees about 5500 miles per year. So its basically getting changed about once per year. If I went 10K intervals, I'd only be changing it on about 2 year intervals. On my first oil change at 5k, I wish I would have spread the filter apart and looked inside of it.

The experts on Bobistheoilguy site. They're the ones who turned me on to it. Excellent construction, robust ADBV, fully synthetic media with mesh reinforcement on both sides.

I use exclusively The Ultra or the M1...whichever is on sale.

I like it. Sounds like fairly high quality stuff. I’ve used k&N since I got this truck but I change the oil so often it probably doesn’t really matter what filter I use. B170DAA9-1CDA-4506-9A28-0C613B26F748.jpg

The royal purple extended life is supposed to be pretty good to. K$N should give you a sticker with the filter so you can put it on the outside of the filter or on your toolbox or something.

Fram is an OEM supplier. I have literally scraped filter paint of vehicles when the paint was applied to cover the Fram name lol!

Most OEM filter suppliers make a few layer of quality filters, and it may be rated like saying good, better, best.
They all must meet the filtration requirement of the application stated, but that’s where it may all end.

You could buy the cheapest brand you can find, and it should meet OEM filtering specs, but the gasket maybe so cheap, that it may leak under pressure. Or the filter metal housing maybe thinner to save cost, thus cheaper.
Normally, a name brand company like Fram will test the entire product for OEM compliance in all of its entirety because they value their name brand.

And name brand lives matter too in $$.

Got one on my kid's car car too. Though Meijer had M1s on sale today. So I picked up a couple of 103s (wife's Corolla uses the same one) So next time it'll be an M1.
