Yes For tunes that are not read locked, like the factory tune. 1.05 and later are read locked so you cannot get them from the ecu.

 

Thanks! So basically you could use that to check if the truck has been tuned before. If it reads, it's most likely factory and if it doesn't it's most likely tuned.

I did speak out of turn, I didn't know we had to kiss each other's boo-boos though.

What I find confusing however is why there was a point in entering in those values in the first place if they don't matter then.

So after the update, how do we go about unlocking another ECU? Mat says it going to be streamlined from the software end right? I just don’t understand the credits to unlock a vin. Does that mean you need to unlock the Vin and ECU? Is this going to cost more the the $75 that it use to be? I want to know for my neighbor, he wanting me to tune his truck and know pricing.

 

I would recommend just wait a little bit longer for this update to publish. Because I already fully explained it in here and that post has disappeared.

These same questions will continue to pop up until then. Our new instructions will answer every question.

Just wanted to say that thanks to @OVTune and @PapaRee for answering my questions. I've used PapaRee's latest tune on my 04c20 but my girl is driving the truck on a trip but I'll discover more when I get it back. In the meantime I'm doing a comparison of the values between stock and a few other tunes.

From what my girl says, the truck drives great. It's stock but then again we just got it about 1.5 months ago so more to come later. Now to start more fights in other threads about what to do with the truck.

If you have a Mac, just use boot camp.

otherwise there are plenty of <$300 laptops you can buy these days

 

Ya was just going to find a cheap one and leave the MAC alone. Just finding one that I can deal with.

 

Tried this morning and mine still gives the connection error.

I can flash files perfectly fine.
