They must have raised the snowfall total as my doctor office just called and cancelled my appointment for tomorrow due to snow.

Every other part of my truck is fine (including the ORIGINAL frame), but I just discovered this rust today when I opened the tailgate; It seems to have appeared rather quickly...

This has been intermittent for I can’t even remember how long; Most of the time, it’s very mild and I just ignore it...

I have a hula girl on the dashboard and a suction cup phone holder on the windshield; These shake a lot at idle.

My dad drove it the other day when we went on our failed mission to buy a snowblower and he noticed the same thing.

A week ago, when I had the foglights installed, it was particularly bad. The whole truck was shaking; It went away after a few hours (again, this is only as it idle when the truck is out of Park but the brake is applied and the truck is NOT moving).

The truck has almost 125K miles on it and is due for an oil change in like 350 miles as of this post (already scheduled ;)), but the engine runs great and all fluids are good; There are no warning lights on, and the engine and tranny aren’t making any weird noises.

The truck has been doing this on and off for more than five years, and I may have posted about it before, but now it seems to be more pronounced.

    Any ideas?

Have you pulled the spark plugs and have a look at them?
Air filters will also make a difference. Maybe the mass Air flow sensor or throttle body need cleaned.

Spark plugs were replaced at 100K and I think they’re good; Truck is going for an oil change in a week and I will have my mechanic look at the MAF and throttle body...

One question though; Wouldn’t a dirty MAF or throttle body sensor cause the CEL to come on?

In my experience, a dirty MAF sensor or dirty throttle body may not set a code and put the check engine light on but can create running issues. Working on ford and Chevy vehicles several years ago, ford MAF sensor thermistors would get a little gum on them making engines run lean. Cleaning the thermistor would solve this issue. The Chevy throttle bodies would gum up and by cleaning the throttle body and removing idle air control and cleaning it would also solve the idle issues. Cleaning the components must be done correctly or damage can occur to the MAF sensor or IAC valve along with possibly throttle position sensor.
You said that idle is rough only at idle with foot on the brake. Does it smooth out with parking brake applied and no foot on brake? If so, I would look at possible leaking power brake booster. If problem only exists when engine is cold and gets better when engine temperature gets warm, it could be a leaking fuel injector seal, intake plenum gasket, etc. that could suck outside air (creating a vacuum leak) but seal as temperatures rise making them seal better. This problem should throw a check engine light on. Make sure your check engine light turns on in the dash when ignition is turned on to make sure diagnostic system is working. Try and do some more diagnosis to try and figure out what may be creating the problem.

What are your RPM at idle?
If you turn the A/C or defroster on (compressor on) doe it still shake?

My truck does this but I have a v6. It’s gotten a little worse over the years.
I contribute it to the fact I have never cleaned the MAF or Throttle body.
And I’m due for a plug change.

My RPM is about 550 at idle no A/C.
With Defrost and A/C on (compressor On) it’s close to 700 rpm.
The shake pretty much goes away.

CEL always turns on when the key is turned to ACC and briefly when the engine is actually started...

CEL was only on once when I disconnected the horn; Had a compression test last year when my truck was using small amounts of oil and it was normal.

Switched from 0W20 to 5W20 and it hasn’t used oil since!

A couple of years ago, I removed the inner tailgate panel and hosed it out with Fluid Film. I still get some 'ooze' out of it but I just wipe it off and smile thinking it won't likely rust.
I spray up into the weep holes in my doors, rockers and cab corners. BUT, I do it in the Summer when it's nice and hot so it will creep and not plug up the holes for water drainage.
