5th gear will be like the 6th in a RA trans. The ratios are a cunt hair off. The RA .849 and RC .848

it would be nice to see the cruising RPMs for sure. Wonder if that would have any drastic affect on fuel mileage? A good comparison to the shifting and clutch feel would be good to have as well. I know you had the issues with the clutchmasters kit so it would be good to hear from someone who has experience with both the stock RA slave cylinder, the RA clutchmasters kit, and now the tilton setup on the RC.

Honestly, if it goes well, a parts list and sell the custom parts here. I would make this switch if it resulted in better shifts, quiet clutch and a 6th gear that isn't usable on my drive to work in 45mph zones.

    My shit is all stock.
I drove it. It’s fuckin awesome. Shifts so much nicer. The slightly taller first gear is practically imperceptible. I need a better shifter.

A few random shots from underneath as I was putting it all back together.

    Initial drive report:

I mostly just drove around my neighborhood. 20-30 mph. 1,2,3 gear. Before, I could basically leave it in third while driving slow and turning in neighborhoods and be fine. Now, it’s second gear at about 2k to go 25mph. Get up unto third and I’m glugging it a bit too low when turning. I did get it out onto a major street and got it up to about 55. Clicked it up into 6th and rpm’s dropped to about 1700.

Shifts in general are far smoother. Especially downshifts. It just drops right in.

The shifter itself needs a change. Currently I’m running a u r d short shifter kit along with the stock third gen stick. Thanks @su.brat . It actually shifts nicely. But, it’s far too tall. I feel like I’m driving a big rig. Im tempted to try my old TRD RA short shifter stick. I’m also considering one of the Core/Hurst shifters. But, I’m not liking the reports of increased gear noise transmitted into the cab with that setup.

You should do the Hurst core shifter. There are lots of offsets and lengths for the Hurst sticks so you could most likely get something that sits right in the sweet spot.

Also, I highly recommend the T-handle.

your drive report is great to hear.

    two things..
the Core does have an available kit to temper NVH, which you may already know of. i don't use it.

also, there is just one Hurst arm that is a bolt on, is shorter than the stock Core arm, and keeps the knob in the same position. it's Hurst #7201, specs here https://core-shifters.com/collectio...tick-5387201-camaro-mustang-gto-shelby-billet

they are not made and no longer for sale. but i have one...

so you can let me know if you want to consider all that. speaking for myself the Core is so right that NVH doesn't bother me. of course i also run solid motor mounts, open exhaust, etc.

Oh, it shifts better for sure! I honestly don’t know if the bearing will end up making noise. It’s just to early to know. As for 6th gear; just imagine having another gear to shift up to beyond your current 6th gear.

There really wasn’t any custom stuff to be done for the trans swap. Just the rear propeller shaft shortening, which you’d have a shop take care of. There’s the swap to an appropriate front shaft. We established which front shafts will work a few posts back. But, that’s just sourcing a part. The floor needs doing. But, that’s not something that I can really produce for sale. It’ll need to be done by someone when the new trans goes in.

I’ve posted up pretty much all the parts I ended up buying. Mainly just the trinkets for the shift boot and the four bolts that hold the rear mount to the crossmember. You may need the rear mount itself if your donor trans doesn’t come with. I’ll list it all up at the front of this thread.

Where did you end up sourcing the trans from? Did you get new or from a wrecked 3rd gen? Curious to see what the cost would be for the swap, I’m thinking around $1200 would be reasonable.

    That’s high praise. Thanks.

I’m seriously happy with the results. I need more seat time obviously. Need to get the truck through smog. The tags expired while the truck was down. So, I can’t really go cruising all over just yet. I don’t need that ticket.

I sourced it from LKQ. It was a wrecked truck. Your reasonable guess is roughly half of what the whole thing ended up costing. Would obviously be less spendy if I’d stuck to the OE release hardware. But, not by much. Wrecked M/T 3rd gens aren’t exactly plentiful from what I understand. Especially when you’re picky and want the later, updated trans which is basically the 2018 and later.

gotcha, that make sense thanks. And my math was dead on actually, because whatever my assumption ends up being for a project it’s usually about double

That’s how it usually goes for me as well. Whatever you think it’ll cost, double it. Then add more.

Didn’t you have to turn something down on a lathe? The rest shouldn’t be too bad, I just don’t have access to a lathe.
