Yes, but from what I've read, the Pros are barely in that category, and it appears many people still find themselves getting flashed. :notsure:

I put a set of SS3 PRO in Selective Yellow on my wife’s Subaru. They are aimed all the way down. Like pointed at the ground, at least 4” lower than the factory fog cut offs. People still flash. I’m not losing any sleep over it.

I would put a set on my truck but I’m still not sure if they will fit the SLEE inserts on the ARB. Rigid SAE Fogs barely clear.

That's cool. I'm sure most people don't care about that stuff, but I do, and maybe that's just the cop in me. I heard one guy at the auto parts store one day when talking about LED headlights say "F_ck 'em" about other drivers. I don't lose sleep over headlights/foglights either, it's the crazy shit I've seen and done over the years at work that sometimes keeps me up.

Yah the whole *moar lights* craze is bananas. People running roof mounted light bars on the highway is, at times, just as annoying as the scatter thrown by LED headlights in halogen housings.

I’d like to think the intensity of the DD SS3 PRO lineup is along those same lines: Annoying to people who aren’t used to light like that coming down the roadway at them, and while it’s not the same thing as a flood patterned light bar on the roof of a Bronco / wildly scattered light from a Bro-leaned pick up with LED’s in the halogen housings, it’s similar enough to set people off.
No matter how well the fog lights are aimed they produce the same effect...upset oncoming traffic.

Yes sir. i'm sure the Sports even do this to some effect when cresting a hill or catching it from the peripheral, but at least it has minimal light scatter above the cutoffs unlike the Pros. This is just what I wanted for my application, I'm not saying it's that way for others. A lot of members on here probably live in rural areas where oncoming traffic is not a big concern for them, but for me, I live in a pretty highly populated place and deal a with a lot of traffic daily.

    @crashburn80

For these higher output options like the DD Pros/Max and the Rigid 360s, is the factory fog lamp wire up to the task or should they be used to trigger a relay with thicker wire?

If you look a page or so back I believe crash posted a statement saying the factory fog lamps pull more power than even these crazy bright led set ups.

^ Correct. The Tacoma’s 3rd Gen TRDs had 55w fogs, the wiring is the same regardless of the fog option (for non-TRD). The Max pulls just under 40w, so there is plenty of room left in the circuit.

So, i was watching some Diode Dynamics youtube review channels and ffs no one is educated enough to aim properly. i don't know how Crash has the patience to explain it every time someone screws up something so simple as aiming properly.

Also saw a channel that recommended replacing their fog pattern for 'driving' pattern (high beam SAE) on their jeep lol. they didn't even point out the proper usage of the "driving" pattern.

Those Jeep owners are somethin', right @crashnburn80?

Anyway, i just purchased some DDs. can't wait to get them in! Thanks @memario1214!

What subaru do you have? The Outback and Legacy (sport trims with the headlight projector in the middle of the headlight instead of the outer portion) are aimed VERY high from the factory. It may not be your fog lights people are flashing you for. On our Ascent we have the SS3 Pro's (yellow) aimed maybe 1" down at 25ft, thats from the "hotspot" and not the light bleed. Never been flashed once.

I’m running 65W H9 bulbs with a dedicated pigtail in lieu of the factory H11’s in the wife’s Crosstrek. It’s the premium trim so it lacks projector style from the higher trims. Just plain Jane halogen reflector housings.
They’re aimed down 2” at 25’ from the factory height despite that the car’s geometry is stock and tire size remains OEM as well.

@Sold_My_Subaru does the lowbeam have a glare cap for the lowbeam reflector? If not it could be the dazzle/glare from the lack of forward light control directly from the bulb.

Personally though, I don't take much stock in random flashing. I rarely, rarely flash anyone in oncoming traffic, even when they're clearly running highbeams or they have some sort of high color temp HID kit in their headlamps. It's not worth it if there's other traffic.
(I do flash for cops though.)

Thats odd. Our Ascent's fog lights do sit a little lower than the crosstrek, but maybe only by about 3-4". I wonder if it is maybe when cresting small hills or or stoplights where there is a slight incline pointing the nose up towards oncoming traffic.

If they are the projector based headlamp then they are very similar to toyota's projector. I know it's a Kioto, just don't know the specifics. If it is the halogen reflector they do have a glare cap, but I haven't seen how an H9 does in them.

I agree, a random flash here or there I'm not too concerned about. When I have been flashed in the past with other vehicles it tends to be fairly low vehicles who already are in the line of sight of a standard cars headlights. Now if it's quite frequent, then I go to my nearest testing wall and evaluate the issue. My other vehicles all have retrofits ranging from ACME/NHK h1 projectors all the way up to clear lens swapped RX350's and a few in between.

I forgot to mention that I’m running boosted voltage out of the alternator to maintain the AGM battery in her Crosstrek as well. It’s ~.5v more than the alternator would normally put out. So I have a feeling the head lights are a tad brighter.

What's funny about that is that subjectively, lower color temps are better. It will be interesting to see how quickly the revert back to the higher color temp binned emitters once supply chains start to even out. Perhaps their customers will ask them to switch back to more neutral choices.

I can't wait for high CRI, warm color temp LEDs become the norm for high output auxiliary lighting.

Agreed, I’d be more likely to buy after the change. I joked they will be collectors edition lights. I suspect they will go back to 5000k as soon as possible, since that is one of their marketing key points.
