I purchased and installed three months ago a Xenon Depot XDHID system for my 21 Tacoma. I have one defective ballast and awaiting the new one to be replaced after jumping through hoops. Now the other side doesn’t work. Has anybody else been having these problems? I thought I bought a quality system because I wanted to avoid problems however that is not the case. I’m debating on scrapping the whole system because I don’t want more problems in the future or switching brands of ballasts.

Personally I think the reason guys have issues with the after market set ups is, you are installing and electrical component that the truck was never designed to have imo.

They were a pain in the ass to deal with when I was having trouble. I ended up taking the HIDs out and doing the h4 conversion

Tons of people run aftermarket lights and don't have a problem. YOu might have had a bad setup. Get another one from another company and try again. The truck was not designed for that light or made for that light but it can def handle that light. As evidenced by the million other people with different or upgraded lighting systems.

Are you sure it was the ballast? Check the relays, I had one go and replaced both because it was cheap. I have Morimoto HID's in there now and not an issue.

True, at that point though I'd be pulling out the whole system and sending it back for a complete new kit.

Can you explain a little more what is not working? Is it simply one light doesn't ignite at all? Does it sometimes work? Are the bulbs okay?

I put Xenon Depot HIDs in my truck almost 3 years ago. One side worked flawlessly and the other side occasionally wouldn't ignite. It happened just infrequently enough to be frustrating. When I noticed the light didn't come on, I would turn the headlights off for a couple seconds and back on and it would light up the second or very occasionally on the third try. Then it would work fine for awhile.

I eventually contacted Xenon Depot and they sent me a new light and ballast. The new one worked better however it would still on occasion (definitely less than the original) would not ignite and light up. My same technique of turning off the headlights and turning them back on would get the light to ignite. I was pretty frustrated with this, but I just kept with it for awhile. After a few more months it stopped having issues igniting. My Xenon Depot HIDs have worked flawlessly since.

I will say I'm glad I stuck it out because I really like the lights.

Thanks Guys for input. My truck is the TRD off road premium and you can only get LED option in the limited or Pro in Canada. LED does not work as well and a projection set up however I might have to except a little less performance and go with that option because it seems a lot more reliable.

I’ve had a similar problem and had to replace the ballasts a couple times. Xenon Depot has been great and sent me replacement ballasts but I am debating going back to stock. I’ve tried as mentioned above switching sides with bulb and ballast, turning lights off for several minutes but nothing resolved the problem other than replacing the ballast.

I personally like the look of LED or HID lights. Halogen lighting to me is not appealing as far as aesthetics. Can't tell its an H9 vs H11 in there I just mean the lighting appearance

The other drivers on the road don't care how cool you think your truck looks with LED when it's glaring and blinding them.

I didn’t know the LEDs that come stock on my BMW motorcycle are blinding people or the LEDs in the F150 that came stock are blinding people or the Toyota LED factory headlights are blinding people...... lol k

Key words are "... come stock..."

OP is retrofitting HIDs in fixtures not designed for them, hence unintended glare towards other drivers.

I'm pretty sure @GrundleJuice meant that putting different types of bulbs into housings/projectors that weren't designed for said types of bulbs causes bad cutoffs and will blind oncoming traffic the same way using your high beams all of the time would. I.e. using LEDs or HIDs in a halogen reflector/projector won't create the same cutoffs that dedicated LED/HID projectors would.
