so then there’s no “fix” for it? Normal? Jerking around like that at those speeds isn’t normal at all even if they are saying it.

It sucks but the dealer will just tell you “it’s a characteristic of the truck”.

anymore when i'm sitting at a red light behind an old woman in subaru with a white dog on her lap, i push the ect button. if i don't the transmission shifts into 6th gear at 25 mph and that drives me crazy that damn flat feeling and when it does downshift into 5th gear it only stays there a few seconds and back to 6th gear we go.

I have a 2016 TRD sport. And had the transmission re-flash done, it was better but not great. I just took my truck in for the frame coating recall and they gave me a 2019 sr5 to drive for 3 days. Wow what a difference in the shifting, so much better than my 16.

    Rugged Off-road 2.25” and 1” blocks. 285/70r17 on TRD 4Runner SEMA wheels
2020 is better than the 2016 and both 2019 trucks we have. They are all the same trucks.

33” tires go with 5.29 gears. Makes the 6th speed actually do its job. Truck drives awesome. Did this to the first 2020 we bought.

2nd truck goes in next week for sale gears. Same tires too. Ridge Grapplers on 17s.

Anyone with a 2021 trd off-road ? Any changes to the transmission ? I’m planning in getting a 2021 but still trying to decide between automatic or manual depending if this transmission issue has been fixed. Had a 2016 and transmission was horrendous

Transmission issue is totally fixed on the automatic. Everyday I drive the truck it feels better and better. They also gave the truck more low end . You will be very happy either way .

There's nothing wrong with the 2020 automatic. Been driving mine for nearly a year now...works great. I've towed my 2k lb. boat over hilly roads, and it behaves just like any automatic. Its very smooth.

My input on my 2020 is that cruise control is damn awful on the highway and will bring my mileage down to 16.5mpg on the usual work drive. If I drive the truck myself only pushing the pedal to downshift to 5th on hills I will average about 18.5mpg while on 285s and mostly stay in 6th and drives great. Very annoying but the rest of the truck is perfect. And will be fixed once I regear.

Yes, I have one. I also had a 2017 OR. Big difference but I’ve only got about 1800 miles on the 21. No complaints so far.

    Built in Texas. :D

I believe the trucks computer restricts the engine power for traction. After 3500 it stops restricting.

Thats weird, my cruise control works normal like my 01 4.7 tundra did. I'll usually set it in for 70 mph when i'm on the highway where i'll usually average about 22 mpg, or better at that speed. Never use it for secondary highways were the speed limit is 45-50 mph.

My 2021 automatic is great, it never hunts for gears. I work a lot in the mountains too and have never felt any weird shifting in it. Toyota definitely fixed the issue with the new tacos.

Whatever it is, it's embarrassing. I was driving my '01 4Runner today and yah its not quick but its just linear and responsive.

So for those of you who has the 2021 automatic are they working ok Bette than the 16. I am about to pull the trigger on a 2021 TRD off Road, wanted the manual but its imposible to get one and if i wanted i have to wait at least 3 months and is no guarantee, and i think i really want the crawl control and the keyless entry and start on the automatic. I had the 16 and it was horrible but i am really hoping that in the 21 the issue is fixed. Any input from any owner would be appreciate it

Test drive it first but the automatic works well
