I've had a plano rifle case on for a while and need another for when camping season rolls around. I'm intrigued by the pelican cases. Do you know how they stack up vs the planos? Definitely look like higher quality.

I installed mine yesterday but didn’t even look at that. I use mine for carrying a kayak. I’ll have to rig something if it’s hitting the fin.
Checking just now it clears the fin by 1/2”...

I bought the steel at Lowe's and the quik fists/t-nuts from Amazon. You may be able to get the quik fists and tnuts locally though.

been reading your website/blog and am excited to see where your adventures lead you to. I'm in the early, early stages of planning our 1st build on our truck for touring Canada first. Then will look in the future for conquering a RTW trip.

Both wife and I got sweet jobs, great school near-by. Plus most Canada is cold like this or colder. Other option would be British Columbia but there they get no sun, lots of rain and shitty politics, lower wages, more taxes...I think I'm good but like to wine a bit:D:rofl:

Strange to hear this coming from someone who lives in Canada. I thought you'd think California was too free.

I personally haven't owned a Plano case to compare against the Pelican Vault 770. I looked at both brands at my local Cabela's and decided the Pelican was the right fit for my needs. I wanted a hard shell case that was a little taller for more storage. The Pelican Vault had that extra room I was looking for. They are not "waterproof" but I have had no issues with water getting into them. I deal with a lot of rain where I live. The biggest deciding factory was the price I paid for them. They were on sale on Amazon for $98, so I bought two of them.

Diff breather mod from the forum. Did the gas door over the taillight for ease of accessibility. Once hose was routed and clamps in place I shot some compressed air through the hose to make sure I could feel it through the vent just for the added peace of mind. Overall about 15-20 minutes worth of time.

Well now - look at THAT. If I remember correctly, the fin-issue was corrected with the production starting in FEB 2020. I see you've got a '21. Nice. ENJOY!

After completely botching a riv nut job for my tailgate panel I decided to use rubber well nuts instead. I drilled the holes out to 1/2”, primed and painted them. Inserted the well nuts and then added a strip of foam weatherstripping leftover from when I did my Softopper. Then added the version 2 mountain hatch with stainless hardware and upgraded my side weather stripping to go better with my tailgate gap.
