I'm just happy the 18 plowed the shit out of the 2 (with no one injured, of course)

Glad to see Michael McDowell win one. Good to see a different face.

I was on a Charlotte to Phoenix flight with his a few years back.

For you younger fans, you might not believe it but they used to not tear up so many race cars at the 500.

They also used to not run single file 90% of the race.

They were spread out back in the 80s & 90s. We didn't have Big Ones very often at Dega and Daytona because the pack was fanned out into 2+ packs.

Yes, but they also didn't have restrictor plates back then. Technically they don't now, but HP is limited

I'm speaking with regard to the restrictor plate era. They were often more spread out, with the pack getting tighter and tighter race after race and year after year. I started going to Daytona in 1991. Excluding Darrell's big flip, there wasn't a "Big One." I recall "Big One's" early in the '92 Daytona 500, the end of the '97 and '98 Daytona 500s, and the fiery '98 Earhardt & Elliott wreck at Talladega as outliers of the era. This was before the wicker bill introduced in 2000 (Earnhardt's final win) and other areo adjustments to pack the cars tighter together.

I started going to Talladega in 2013 and while I do not enjoy single-file racing, I do not enjoy the 3-4-wide pack racing lap after lap either. It's exhausting. But they're both opposite sides of the same coin. You can't have one without the other.

The HP is down so the plates are gone but they're still not lifting in the turns, which is what's needed to reduce this go-kart momentum package we have today.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
They have to give the driver the ability to pull out and make a move. And they need to actually drive the cars also, this get out and get it to speed and hold it on the floor BS takes all that out of it. Then you have equipment that is sub par getting sucked along 15MPH faster than it should go and when they lose that draft "they gone". Also the cars have become so safe the driver no longer fear the wrecks like they used to so they make bone headed move after bone headed move. I would like to see a smaller spoiler and for them to get a little HP back. Make the cars handle like shit then it will get back to what we used to see.
