Getting 14-15 mpg in my 2010 Access Cab. I’ve got the 2.7 with a 5 speed and a topper. Have about 350lbs of sand in the back for traction, but I doubt that much would drop my mileage that hard. I got it this winter so I can’t compare it to summer, but I drive like a grandpa and I feel that 15 is way too low. Air filter and tire pressure are good, might do an injector clean next. If anyone has any suggestions it’d be super appreciated. Thanks :)

What were you at before adding the ballast?

City, Highway, combined MPG? Remove sand and measure MPG to be sure. Lift kit? Oversize tires?

No winter blend where I live, and I don’t have the opportunity to run without ballast as winter’s hitting hard right now. Stock everything. Forgot to mention, mpg is the same whether I’m driving like a grandpa or flooring it everywhere.

Whats the weather like? They say that if you compare the same vehicle between 75° and 20° F, the mileage can take as much as a 25% penalty.

Weather’s anywhere from -15 to 40 where I’m at, with no variation in mileage

How long are your commutes? If half the drive is spent warming up the engine, that also kills your mileage.

Commutes range anywhere from 10-50 miles, usually right in the middle

In winter the engine goes through longer warm up cycles every time it is started. I wouldn't worry about your true mileage, until you check it in summer.

So many factors lower winter mileage numbers.

I find it interesting you say that there is no winter blend of gas but that winter is hitting you hard?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Pop the #4 ignition coil out and see if it’s covered in engine oil; if it is, it’s time for valve cover and spark plug tube gaskets (and maybe a new coil or two). Good luck!

I’ll give it a go, I remember there being a bit of oil on one of my plugs when I replaced them about 2k miles ago

Where do you live? How do you know it’s not winter blend?

My mileage is right at that same 14–15 Mark. I have a 2” lift and 32” AT tires, softopper, but no sand or salt in the bed currently. MPG gets noticeably better in warmer weather. Waiting till then to change my spark plugs too.

I get 14-15 mpg in the winter with a reg cab, it's the winter gas combined with cold weather.

Bleep bloop winter equals poorer economy in all vehicles. I would have thought that the 4 cylinder would have done a little better than this though. At 15 mpg in the winter I wouldn't be chasing too many things.

    2 or 4 wheel drive?

One thing you could do is buy a Scangauge or UltraGauge. I probably added 1-2 mpg just paying more attention to my driving.

Mine is a 2.7 4speed auto 2wd single cab, even in winter in MA I get 20-21 city. No weight in the rear end and usually I'm the only person in it

That is about what I get in the winter here in SC. I think it's normal...
