ADD

Hey yall. I took it upon myself to attempt to troubleshoot my 4WD malfunction. The issue is 4WD wont engage unless i go through the process of shutting off my truck and then putting it in 4WD and then turning it on, and 4 LO just beeps. So i took apart my ADD and its a complete wreck. Rust, ice, water, dirt, mud. Should i just get a new one? Or do you think i could tidy her up and use it some more. Pics below.

 

Off....that motor looks ruff.
You might clean up the contacts and see what happens.
But you’ll probably be back in there before long.

Maybe someone with a source to a quality aftermarket can jump in and suggest a replacement.

I’d go with the Aisin one at RockAuto before eBay.
It’s over 2x more expensive. But Aisin usually makes good stuff.
That’s just my opinion, and it isn’t worth much.

 

I had an E-Locker motor that looked worse than, didn't work at all that cleaned up and replaced the seals regreased and it worked just fine for the two years I had the truck after that before I sold it.

I'd give it a try cleaning it up if I where you personally.

 

I remember at one time they actually had a rebuild kit for the rear locker actuator.
I haven’t had any luck find the kit now. The kit was reasonably priced best I remember.
I had thought about picking one up “just in case”.

 

I didn't have a kit, didn't even know there was one.

I used a dremel, dielectric grease, O rings from a transmission shop and some stainless machine screws from a hardware shop, FIPG.

Even had to epoxy one of the permanent magnets back into the motor cap.
