quite a few people stated over the years, that the heath brothers, four of us, really spiced things up in Edna, the years we lived there. I used to tell them, it's only because we had vivid imaginations. Today, the police would shoot you for some of the things we did, or at least arrest you and put you in jail for a night or two.

No, the DQ is what reminded me of that. Edna Texas had two main drags. 3 or 4 traffic lights on main street, and maybe 2 or 3 on the other highway through town. The rolled the side walks up every night at 5 pm. One movie theatre that showed the same movie for about 3 weeks to a month. No bowling alley. When the opened a pizza hut, you couldn't get into the place for the first six months. you had to be creative to keep from going NUTS!!!

This is probably a shitty thing to do but here goes....
I rarely call in (off) at work, maybe once or twce a year when I get an urge to go fishing or hunting and it's going to be the 'perfect' day.
Anyhow, the 3 other guys in my dept got all up in my grill(e) and asked if I was calling in tomorrow (due to road conditions). I said I hadn't planned on it because I live so close to work (3 miles) and I have a Tacoma with a fairly fresh set of Wildpeaks on it....not too concerned about it. Well, these youngsters seem to kinda sorta half ass look up to me for whatever reason; I think it's partly because of my age, years of service, I like having fun at work and I crawl up in their asses when they start acting all lazy n'shit.
It just so happened that as they're trying to get me to call in my wife text me and says, "why not call in tomorrow, drop me off at work and stay home the rest of the day". That kinda sealed the deal. My department will have exactly zero people working tomorrow. Hell, I called in before I left the building. As I was leaving tonight a supervisor told me that over 150 people had already called in for tomorrow.
Not nearly as interesting as @CrippledOldMan 's story, I just felt like typing.

Crazy. We don't have small towns like that around here. They are either "blink and ya miss it" or 10k+ in size.
Seems like I will tomorrow. We got all y'alls ice this afternoon and I'll be calling off tomorrow.

well if you were driving down the interstate highway, and wasn't paying attention, you'd do exactly that, blink and you've passed it by. If I had to guess, I'd bet you there are a thousand small towns like this one scattered all over the state of Texas. I've driven through quite a few of them over the years. Maybe one signal light, or a blinking light, and that's it. I really enjoy these small towns though. The courthouses in many of them are really something to see.

I'll be back later, I'm in the middle of a really good Stephen King book that I haven't read in 15 years or so.

I'm going home from work tonight (8" of snow, 3' drifts) and what do I see? An old dude, driving an old truck, pulling an 18' trailer which holds an older JD mower. I'm wondering exactly where the hell he had to be at 6pm with that mower. In the snow.

I have almost all of his books in hardback and I've read them all (some multiple times). Shocker, eh?

I do a lot of reading, but all technical reference stuff. Haven't read fiction in 20 years. I watch TV though.
