This is going to be one of those crazy weather days.
Seeing a deep freeze pushing in right behind all this precip.
    Whoa.

Yup that's what I was thinking. We have street flooding already in some spots. Suppose to rain and get up to 37 then back down below freezing

Yeah, lots of rain, then snow this evening/freezing... I'm sure higher elevations are going to be an absolute mess.

Happy I don't have to plow and snowblow all day, but not really ready for spring yet either.... Lets get another month or two here..

Oh so with the weather, and about 2 years of wanting one, I finally bought a generator last night. I had the switch installed when we built the house, but then ran out of money lol.

Our guy said he called the local dealer and hes waiting on orders from September from generac still! Told me to go online, best I could find was an April-May delivery :fingerscrossed:

Would have been nice for the winter, but so far we have been okay with power losses and we wouldn't have had it in time anyways.

My parents were looking at generac but ended up with one from home depot online with 9500 starting watts and runs on LP or gas for under $1000

    A permanent one?

The house im buying has a wired in transfer panel, and I found a cord out in the garage to hook up to the 220v on a generator. I'll be buying a large portable generator to plug in as the house is outside of town.

My parents lost power in a lightning storm this summer when a bolt struck the transformer out in a swamp. Power company said it would be a few days. Only place I could find with instock generators was harbor freight, soni bought them a 4300 watt generator for $400 or so with a coupon. It ran their fridge, freezer, bedroom ac and a few lights for the few days.
I wasn't happy being forced into a rash quick decision, but had no issues, and have done a bunch of research since and the predator generators are pretty highly rated.

Yea I know about those, they use a knock off Honda style engine and do well. I use to use them when I did mobile auto body repair to power the compressor, laptop, and sanders. I told my dad to look into them but I guess they wanted to go all out. Its just sitting in the garage now

We are pre-wired for a generac and it will be permanent. Got an 18kw for just a hair under 4K shipped. It will run the entire house and if I ever get that garage I want, the lights in there.

harbor freight predators are the best there is, but maybe louder than some.

we built our wedding business, and two houses on a little one before it started to run out of steam. Contractor took it off me for $50 and replaced some parts now it’s 100% again.

we upgraded to a 4500w one, and it’s set to run the MIL bigger stuff if needed. 10/10 would recommend. If you get the warranty you should return it right before it’s up and you can walk out with a new one no questions asked. The local store recommended this to me :rofl:So for 700 total I got (2) 4500w generators essentially.

Yea thats what I have seen in my research. I told them to only run premium non ethanol gas in it. As they rarely loose power so it will sit for long periods of time with no use.
I was in a rush to get it setup, so I ran regular gas, but completely drained the tank and carbs when done so they don't gum up sitting.

Yea I should remind my dad to put some Stabil in theirs. We normally get 93 for small motor stuff, hard to find ethanol free around here. I use to have access to avgas about 10 years ago but not anymore

Stewarts brand gas stations sell it around me. Unfortunately my county govt has passed a law making it illegal to sell gas with no ethanol in it. I have to drive 15 mins to the next county to buy it, but I work over there so I just pick it up coming home from work. I'm moving to the next county over this summer where its regularly sold.

@tacobell007 I have a 10000 watt, electric battery start Generac at my house. We don't have gas or propane so we went with the portable one. Well, when I say portable it is 365 lbs, and runs off of gas, but the tank is 10 gallons and runs under half load for about 12 hours. We have a 12 panel transfer switch that we manually switch over to when the power goes out. We just plug in the 50amp cord into the generator then into the plug in the side of the house, and we are good to go. The downsides of it is being heavy to move (we don't move it but it does have handles and wheels), it uses gas so we usually have about 30 gallons that are stabilized ready to go that I change out every 6 to 9 months, it doesn't come on automatically when the power goes out, and you do need to maintenance (change the oil) it a little more and run it for 5 minutes a month to keep the battery charged. The upside is that we can take it with us if we ever sell the house.

Yea I'm not sure where i could find it besides a marina. A couple Sunoco station have race fuel but thats about all I know.

Yea theirs is the same way, has wheels and a handle, electric start. They are trying to get a switch put in just inside the garage so the generator can sit outside and run. The one they got accepts small LP tanks like from a grill, which they have 3 of and a 5 gallon container of gas. I know the biggest thing for them would be keeping the 2 fridges and chest freezer going along with the blower on the wood stove since those were the biggest issues back in the Oct. 2011 storm
