I've never flushed or changed the oil on my transmission, I've never towed anything I almost have 150k miles on it. Just wondering if I would be doing more harm than good to the transmission and torque converter? Thanks

Generally speaking, if you have never changed the automatic transmission fluid at it's appropriate intervals it's best to do a series of a few drain and fills (3-5) one about every two weeks or 250 miles instead of a flush as a flush can knock loose built up contamination that has settled and plug up your valve body as well as a flush can be too high pressure and damage your clutch packs. A series of drain and fills will eventually replace all the fluid and slowly clean the transmission of accumulated deposits in small enough pieces to flow through the system without issue.

A vehicle's torque converter is the same as the clutch of a vehicle with a manual transmission, so OP's would be an automatic transmission.

Suggest to do a drain/fill, run for a thousand miles or so. Follow with an OIL and FILTER change.

Easy DIY job, just a little messy. Look to the "Sticky" threads for the How To.

I did my truck at 105 kmiles with an oil/filter change on the tranny. The result is the shifting is so smooth, I need to watch the Tach to "see" the shift points. Shifts like butta.....

If you're going to do a drain and fill, I'd be inclined to drop the trans pan on the first and clean it out. Just remember, be careful tightening the drain plug, it strips easy, reduce the torque from factory spec.

Umm.....I'd use the transmission filter for the transmission in your specific truck. The filter isn't visible until you remove the pan.

Oil, air or gas filter won't fit.

Get onto RockAuto. Enter your year, make, model......the proper tranny filter can be found. Typically, the filter will include the pan gasket. Here you have a choice. Use the supplied pan gasket or use the gasket in a tube. Cost for filter/gasket <$15, then add shipping.

As cautioned earlier, don't gorilla arm the pan bolts. They are small and don't need a lot of torque to seal the gasket.

Thanks for the name calling.......very respectful.

The automatic transmission most certainly does have a filter.

See post #1 and #10, specifically the reference to the torque converter and automatic. Don't know many manual transmissions with a torque converter..............

There’s no filter. It’s a sock that goes over the pickup. He’s giving advice about something he knows nothing about.

Go onto RockAuto...... they have some nice pictures for you to view.

BTW, the filter is inside the pan. Not visible until the pan is removed.

Thanks Yukon..... Thats a funny looking sock......:rofl:

Save your money. Unless you let the fluid over heat it is good for at least 400,000 miles. If you let the transmission get hot enough to ruin the fluid the transmission is toast and changing the fluid won't help.

My transmission filter looks like this:

    PXL_20210216_231750856~2.jpg

    I'm a pelican too!

By the way, I got my filter and fluid from Amazon, it was the lowest price I could find at that time.
