Here's our weather right now.

 

Yup. The house has two AC units.

 

We have the pool, hot tub, and the two main barns and we are rarely above 240.

We've thought about adding solar like our neighbors, but I don't think the up front cost is worth it. My neighbor keeps his AC at 76° and pays about $150/mo elec, and finances the solar for $185/mo. And we're not committed to staying here long term.

 

Max we’ve ever paid was like $220. That was only one month ever. Usually around $175.

I have been reading into more and more, I believe I can do most of the installation without any issues and then slowly add panels accordingly. The panels are not the big cost, once you have the transformer it’s all down hill.

 

Wife refused to allow gas in the new house, propane is too expensive and the nearest gas was 1.5 miles away and they wanted us to pay for the installation....

 

My folks installed solar bout 5/6 years back and the only elec bill they have is a charge to exist on the grid. I'll ask what it the charge is, but it's almost negligible at this point. Upfront cost is steep, but worth it over time, but if you're not going to be there long term (based on cost & how much your monthly bill is) I wouldn't worry about it

 

That's lame. Gas is awesome for cooking and heating.

Our water heater and oven are gas. I'm not sure about the heater, though. Most houses here are electric, from what I understand.

There's some tax breaks in some areas for residential solar panels, too.

 

I had to break mine off that habit.

I told her look at the bill her way, then look at the bill my way.

Hers was $100 more expensive, so now she's on board.
