I just installed these on my 2018. My camper shell is on order and should arrive in 6 weeks. I don't want the truck to sag. Presently there's about a one-half inch gap between the Sumo's and the frame stop.

SSR-610-40 | SumoSprings Rear Solo for Toyota Tundra, Toyota Tacoma

The ride is firmer but not objectionable. Did load about 300 lbs. and was happy the truck lowered by about half an inch. The cornering is much flatter too.
Note that I use my truck to haul but not go off-road. (Other than trails and Beach...)

Will post pics when I get the shell installed.

It’s probably firmer because 610 is specific to 2nd gen. 612 specific for 3rd gen. Difference is in height (maybe diameter too) 4” vs 5”

If your towing or carrying weight regularly I'd say the Sumo's work out great.
I've had the 612-40 for 3 years now and it works great. Unloaded the truck drives soft and compliant as the Sumo's are not touching the frame. If you hit a good bump or dip you get into the Sumo spring so it gets stiff fast, but not a problem IMO.
For towing or running weight in the box they are perfect, keeps the truck level and handles the weight much better than stock.

Sumo is great solution imo, and WTG. Great thread, it ought to be a sticky.

Is anyone doing any additional modifications/reinforcements to their brakes as well when you’re adding the springs? My partner and I are planning to do about 5 months of overlanding in my truck this summer, and between the cap/bed build/all our gear/supplies, we’ll have over 1000# in the bed for the trip.

We’re definitely going with sumo’s (although undecided on which ones), and I’m wondering if it’s helpful/necessary to do something for additional breaking power?

2021 Double Cab, Long Bed for reference.

Unsure which SumoSprings to go with. '16 Tacoma SR5 4dr 4x4 LB with factory hitch daily driver. Stock suspension, now with Cooper Discoverers 265/70/R16. Towing 1 or 2 times a month between April and November. Dry weight of the camper is around 2082lbs, with allowable payload of 600lbs. Travel with fresh tank empty, some food in fridge, bedding and clothes. Tongue weight is 212lbs, a little heavier when bikes are on the tongue mounted rack. Truck bed will be filled with some gear as well, so say 500lbs. Try to spread things out with heavier stuff at the front.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Are you considering lifting by chance? If so I'd do an AAL (add-a-leaf) and see if that solves your squat.

    No plans to lift.

Yes, aware of the 3rd gen model. I'm considering the 1000lb, just don't want to change the ride comfort when not towing.

Nice TAB! I would highly recommend the Roadmaster Active Suspension, it really improves the handling of the truck and manages the additional weight better than Air bags. Easy install.

Thanks for posting about this product. Looks like it'd help axle wrap and wheel hop more than anything else. The only caveat I can imagine is that some folks on stock leaf packs and some weight have almost a flat (or W) shaped leafs (and it appears this product requires a healthy curve to add a benefit.)

I have the 610-40 ones. They work well for my needs.
You can call SumoSprings directly and explain your situation.
They're very helpful and you can order on the spot. The price is competitive.
There's also a 30 day no questions asked return policy if you're not satisfied.

I contacted SumoSprings using the website. Included all the info I posted above. They replied and suggested the SSR-612-40 with the 500lb rating. I may still go for the -47s for piece of mind.

Order from sumo. I did. At first I ordered the 1,000lb and wasn’t happy about the ride. I called and exchanged them for the 500’s. Less harsh ride. Didn’t make me pay extra to swap
