2019 TRD OR DCLB. I had TSB-0092-20 done by my local dealership last week due to gear hunting and downshifting past gears with any amount of throttle input.

I’m at the dealership again because of an odd “shift” in 3rd gear. RPMs drop about 300-500 as soon as it shifts into 3rd. Then the throttle catches up in those lost RPMs before shifting to 4th. This is with steady throttle input. As a test, I put it in S3 and drove normally with RPMs under 3k and it feels like the truck shifts 4 gears. I drove a 2021 with 11 miles on it in the same configuration on the lot just now and it does the same thing. My guess was the TSB is causing the issue.

Technician ran a diagnostic and it looks like the graph is showing the dip in RPMs. He told me the computer is causing it, which leads me to think that they’ll tell me it’s “operating as intended”. They are keeping the truck for the day to test it against another 2019.

Just wanted to give my experience and see if anyone else has had this issue. Will update as I get more info.

My 2020 doesn’t do it. Maybe a software glitch while the tech was doing the update.

Yeah, I tried it with ECT as well. Not as pronounced since the gears hold a bit longer, but same RPM loss in 3rd.

As long as it’s not a mechanical issue I can live with it. God knows I’ll always be left wanting with this truck.

You sure its not just tc lockup that feels like that 4th gear?

From what I researched that is one possibility. There are so many opinions on here it’s tough to weed through. I haven’t been called in for the fuel pump recall so that is also another theory. Only 25k on the truck so could be low ATF from factory. Lots of ideas thrown around.

Sure sounds like its just early lockup which these trucks lock and unlock quite frequently. Curious what the dealer comes back with.

EDIT: Just remembered you had the TSB done just a week ago. In my experience these trucks need at least 1000 miles before the transmission program settles down and gets a feel for how you drive. I drove mine in S5 for the first 5k miles and ran it pretty good. Once it all settled in it was completely different than when I purchased.

Appreciate it! The technician is essentially telling me it’s the TC. They’re saying “to improve gas mileage” and “working as intended”. Came with the recent TSB. At least it wasn’t a bigger issue. Will continue driving a bit more to see if it improves. Thanks!

I've noticed it as well. Everything else runs fine with the update. I haven't tried to replicate it or determine what gear it does it in. I run in D with the ETC on and it seems to minimize it to the point I don't notice it.

It feels to me like a dead spot similar to the one I have in my 2016 cummins work truck - which has been diagnosed on the Cummins forums and Ram, as intended "protective" programming.

Gotcha. Yeah it’s a bit annoying. Did not happen before the TSB. My truck doesn’t want to stay in 4th very long either. Might try sport mode. Might “learn” to stay in gear a bit longer. Thanks!
