‘Dad Shred build thread’ double locked & 5:29’s SOLD, now 2014 tundra cm TRD OR

Last tank of gas on stock gears. 5:29 here I come. Pulling diffs Wednesday

 

Driveshafts disconnected, front diff drained & front knuckles all loosened up, brake lines unbolted in the rear, just need to figure out a workaround on this fill plug that’s too close to the diff cover before I drain the rear diff. Will be pulling the actual diffs out tomorrow night. Nice head start tonight. #hovertruck

 

That fill plug looks like a tricky one. Whenever I weld one of those covers on, I like to put a socket on the plug while I position the cover to avoid this. You could cut out a square to provide better access to the plug.

 

Excellent idea Randy, another thought was to use a Dremel disk to cut a line deep enough into the plug to use a sturdy flat head screwdriver

 

This went well! Thanks to buddy Austin for helping me safely muscle these bad boys down to safety. Not too bad of a job at all, the writeups and videos always help a ton.

 

Tossed some paint on my very gross front frame rails & ordered some new $20 splash shields

Got bored. Put my sweet new jigsaw to good use trimming some corners

 

BROS. SHES RUNNIN LIKE A TOP. SMOOOOOOOTH AS EVER & zippy like literally my wife’s 2021 sporty suv. Speedo actually seems incredibly accurate also. Gears & locker are in. Only thing I haven’t done yet is actually wire up the front locker. Gave the garage a good rinse down because there was a good amount of dirt, oil, anti seize, PTFE blue lube, grease & grime on the floor I have been sliding around in all day. Feels so good to be done

 

WOWWWW. PRIOR MPG (combined city HWY) was 14.3.

I reset my Ultragauge and right now my CITY MPG Is over 17

 

Running errands, trying to rack up the break-in miles from the new gears. Washed the truck. Returned the dirty life wheel because -14 offset means I’d still need spacers and it’s dumb to me to have to add spacers to a $350 beadlock. Going with these instead. Gonna take a while to acquire the other wheels. Only buying one at a time lolllllllll

 

MAN OH MAN truck feels so great and so many people said 5:29’s would be SCREAMING and horrible to live with on the HWY. Let me tell you the truck is barely a HAIR over 2500 rpms at 70mph in 5th gear with 35’s and my AT. I confirmed road speed with a GPS Speedo app on my phone

 

IDGAF about football, got some bougainvillas for the front yard today

 

Gonna buy one at a time of these sick wheels. Gonna take a while to accumulate them but I’m excited nonetheless.

 

Only another 150 miles to go before gear break in is done!
