Are you trying to sell your OEM grille that you replaced?

Nice. Miss our lifted 3rd gen 4Runner (5-spd manual) quite a bit but the 5th gen we have now is nice too. I think the 4Runner/Tacoma combination really works, at least is does here at casa del 9mm.

Yes sir, the taco/4runner works great for me too! My wife drives a ‘17 4runner Limited too, so we are a fully Toyota family! In fact, we’ve always had a Toyota in the family since I was a little kid!

How do you like the OEM bed divider? It's pricey but is it worth it?

I got the divider before I got the bed mat, and to be honest, the mat does the job of keeping things from moving around perfectly fine on its own. I may sell the divider. It does come in handy if I want to make sure nothing big slams into my folded up tonneau cover though (like when I had all 4 of my 4runner’s tires in the bed on my way to/from get them mounted on the wheels. Other than that, I don’t use it much.

Almost finished with my interior black out. The only pieces left are the chrome door handles (which I’d like to get the black Meso door handle covers that just snap on right over the chrome, but they’re sold out right now) and the little keyhole on the glovebox (which I’ll probably just get a piece of black vinyl for that). The Taco Garage black rubber radio knob rings didn’t hide all the chrome on the knobs, so I ended up taking a Sharpie to them and they actually look good. The rubber rings prevent me from touching the sharpie’d part, so it shouldn’t wear off very easy. I think Batman would be proud of my Taco, haha!

Just a heads up. If you search on eBay, there are about four sellers with the door handles as I write this. Only dual handle sets though and prices vary. They are legit. Just got mine today.

Thanks for the tip! I looked on ebay for em a few days ago and didn’t find any. I just looked again right now and added “meso” in my search terms, and I found em! Just bought 2 sets for all 4 doors. They were a couple dollars more on ebay than on Meso’s site, but no wait so that’s cool!

I finished my chrome delete this weekend, inside and out. Very happy with the result! The only chrome left is the inside the headlights and the backup lights (in the tail lights). I’m not a fan of smoked lights personally, and I really love the look of these new TRD Pro tails, so those will stay. I might upgrade the headlights at some point to the factory LEDs, but they’re not on my short list of things that I want for now... especially since I just ordered a Snugtop Rebel camper shell a few days ago (my God, camper shells are expensive these days!).

I bought a tri-fold hard tonneau cover right after I bought the truck, but I’m (once again) a working musician, and now that the gigs have finally returned since the lockdowns, I just have too much band shit to fit under a tonneau to lock it all up... and the last thing I want to do after rolling into my driveway at 2am after a show, is have to unload a truck full of amps and speakers! So the shell will be awesome! I ordered it with windoors, so I can just lift them up and get to the stuff all the way in the bed without having to climb inside of it.

Anyway, here’s all what I did for the chrome delete...

    Interior (mostly Meso Customs):
    Vent Rings
    Steering Wheel Emblem (eBay)
    Starter Button
    4x4, Climate & Radio Knobs
Glove Box Keyhole (I just made it from some black vinyl left over from my wheel decals)
    Door Handles

    4C5CE3EB-B64F-4FAC-945D-DC9028D90997.jpg

    Exterior:
TRD Pro Tail Lights (2021 OEM)
Black Sequential Side Mirror Turn Signals (Taco Garage)
Black Tacoma Emblems, Tailgate Letters (Amazon)
Added Black 4x4 Emblem to Tailgate (because I removed the “TRD Off Road 4x4” bed stickers, and I can’t have people thinking this might be a 2wd, haha)
    Blackout Vinyl Wheel Decals (TW)
Painted Toyota Logos Black on the Hub Caps
    Black Lug Nuts (Amazon)
Removed Chrome Exhaust Tip (and stuck it on the wife’s 2017 4Runner Limited, which she was happy about)

My Snugtop shell finally came in after about 9 weeks of waiting and I got it put on today! They told me it could be up 16 weeks, so I guess I got lucky that it even made it here this year. I ordered it with flip-up windoors on both sides and keyless entry for the back window. I already had the OEM remote tailgate lock, so now the whole back locks/unlocks with my key fob. I ordered it with a Yakima Jetstream rack too, but they’re backordered like everything else, so hopefully I’ll get that before too long. The rails are installed now though.

I sealed the bulkhead and corners with butyl putty tape before the install. I can’t believe the gaping holes Toyota leaves in the front corners of these beds... it’s as if they’re completely unaware after about 6 decades of making pickups that a lot of people like to keep their shit dry back there. WTH? I don’t know if most people realize there are a couple almost 1/2” daylight holes in the front corners, and a couple more 1/8”-1/4” slits between the bed and the plastic rail caps that water will just flow into if you don’t seal them up. I’m not sleeping back there, but I play professionally in 2 different bands and I have a lot of expensive gear I don’t need getting wet. It’ll also be nice to roll up in my driveway after a show and just hit the lock button without having to unload a truck full of gear at 2am. I had a tonneau cover before this, but I just didn’t enough space for everything under there, so I still ended up having to still unload half the truck on those late nights (which is pretty much every weekend for me).

Shout out to @Puppypunter too for making me some sweet brake light and tailgate lock wire taps, so no wires had to be cut for the install. Pics...

My wife got me some hood struts for Christmas so I put em on yesterday. They’re made in USA by Striker Engineering (yes, I told Amazon Santa I wanted these ones) and I have to say they’re really nice quality. The whole install took me about 40 min, and that includes finding an old 2x4 in my shed and cutting it to the right length to prop the hood up to the height I wanted. The struts allow for up to 8” higher than the stock hood prop height, so I went +7” as to not completely max these out. You rivet all the mounts on, so you’ll need a rivet gun and a drill 8 holes. They’re very solid and actually better quality even than the OEM hood struts on my ‘17 4Runner. Now I can actually get my fat ass up in this thing when I need to.

I like the look of the Snugtop. Also, you mention the gaps in the corners of the bed...can you post pics of your fix? If not, it's cool.

Looks great and works great for your equipment.

Thanks! It’s kinda hard to fully see how I sealed the corners of the bed now because the Snugtop covers up most of the butyl putty tape. But there are some 1/4”-1/2” gaps you can see in the front corners if you look up from the bed with the sun coming through it or while someone holds a flashlight from the outside. I also removed the bulkhead and put putty tape all along the bottom of it, pulled up the corners of the plastic caps on the bedsides and put putty under them, and then put putty in the gaps between the bulkhead and the bed sides.

I'll have to investigate during daylight hours...we're expecting a winter storm overnight/3am.

I'm actually considering the Diamondback Tonneau cover now! Was thinking the BAKflip MX4 but that Diamondback with compression gaskets looks SO much better. Pricing is quite a big jump from the MX4...but I'll keep my options open.

Thanks for the heads up on the on the corner gaps.

Truck looks really nice. Did you put the 265’s on after your suspension modifications or before? If before - Do you have a picture?
