Might be because I have 35's :anonymous:

I also have 4.30 gears (yeah, I know, weird combo), so normally the regular 33 tune works out well since with 4.30's and 35's it essentially works out to be the same as stock gears w/33's.

Living here in Ft. Lauderdale my daily speeds rarely exceed 45 mph as we are all stop and go down here especially during the winter season when the snowbirds and tourists come to town. With that being said the OV 2.0 tune was not working for me mainly because of the torque converter (TC) engaging in 3rd and 4th gears. The truck had absolutely no power in 3rd and 4th with the TC engaged.

    THIS TUNE IS FOR 04B04

I worked with Mooseditty17 over the course of a week to design a tune that better fits my driving needs in stop and go traffic.
My tune, which I've attached to this thread for anyone to try, completely eliminates the TC in 3rd and 4th gears only. No more do I roll around a corner at 20mph hit the gas and the truck just falls on its face. Now powering out of a turn is fun, in the right gear, with the right rpm's with plenty power. The TC engaged in 3rd and 4th at low speeds was just crippling the truck.

I next changed some of the up shifts. 1>2>3 is unchanged from the OV 2.0 tune. 3>4 is now at 30mph; 4>5 is now at 47mph; and 5>6 is now at 62mph. At speeds below 20mph the transmission immediately downshifts to 3rd gear for plenty of take off power. Mooseditty17 also added a good amount of pep to the peddle. Punch the gas pedal now and the truck jumps.

I've now been running this tune for about 2,500 miles and for me, it works perfectly, no more dead spots at low speeds and the transmission is always in the correct gear. In town the truck averages 18mpg and on the freeway I'm averaging 21mpg with a recent run to Orlando in 60 degree dry weather I recorded a sustained 23mpg.

Additionally, the 2>1 downshift transmission clunk during the warm up phase has been greatly reduced.

    Again:
No TC in 3rd or 4th
    Speed changes in 3>4, 4>5 and 5>6

Are you monitoring transmission and torque converter temps? With no TC lock and higher shift points to 5th, you may be building up a lot of heat.

Yes, I been watching the temp at the TC with my scan gauge 2, typically stays around 185 degrees.

I had to roll some tc locking changes back due to temps going up past 200 in 3rd and 4th driving in low speeds.
Also, TC temp is up at the traffic stops.. and I live in colder climate.

So far so good on the TC temp, however, June, July, August and September may tell a different story.

Your TC temps are good with no lock or half lock at all? That's interesting. What tires and gears? Any additional weight?

It is possible to see low temps on short to moderate runs. If I drive freeway and exit to the streets with tranny temps at normal op. temps, this where my TC temps were going up past 200. To bring TC temps down you need SLU solenoid ON, which is what those tables control.

I also have a lot of 4th gear tc changes and primarily run it unlocked. I ran it 9 miles unlocked from 7k feet to 12k feet pulling a pass and never got past 215 tc temp and 200 pan temp which is totally fine.

Wow. I've got over 200 on hard pulls. Can't imagine towing w/out tc locked

I mean the thermostat opens at 190 so getting over 200 isn't hard to do

This PID shows over 200 on hard acceleration alone.

    Screenshot_20210216-192135.jpg

The ideal temperature for your transmission is 200 degrees. For every 20 degrees past 200, the lifespan of your transmission is reduced by a factor of 2. In other words, if you hit 220 degrees, you can expect to get about half the normal life out of your transmission. At 240 degrees, your transmission will last about 1/4 the time that it should. And if you get up to 260 degrees, you are down to 1/8 the normal life.

So I guess if you're staying at 200 or less...
