If I could have found a '20 Tundra TRD OR 4x4, with 8K miles, for $36K, I would have bought it in a second. That truck would be at least $5K more and does not have a locking rear diff, which is a huge omission from the Tundra.

Wife’s got a 17 tahoe that just rolled 100k and it’s been great. Hell of a tow rig haha. Rides good. Interior is loaded and still looks brand new. Brother and dad both have Denali 1500’s and haven’t had any issues. My wife’s tahoe pulls my 18’ trailer with my four wheeler and her side by side really well. If my Tacoma wasn’t an inheritance I’d have a Silverado myself

Also not sure what kind of answers your expecting on a die hard Tacoma sight. Everyone on here is fully convinced a Tacoma is the only good truck on the highway. A Tacoma won’t pull as much or as good as a Silverado. And a tundra gets 6mpg and is extremely out of date.

Father in law has a 17 Tacoma and it struggles pulling a 12’ trailer and single side by side.

Weird. Never known anyone to have this problem. Wife’s tahoe trans is great at 100k. Dad pulls a 32’ camper with his Denali. No problems. Brother had a 06 1500 with 280k he drove from Texas to NC numerous times. Doesn’t say much, but we all know the 3rd gen taco trans isn’t “the shit” either.

This is ultimately why I bought a tundra.
Tacoma couldn't pull an enclosed 7x14 trailer with sxs at highway speed.
wind resistance and hills had my truck running WOT.
Everyone says "sure just slow down" great in theory till you rely on people to let you merge. Get passed by rows of big rigs. It's stressful, exhausting and no fun.

Couldn’t agree more. When we all load up to go riding I have to take it easy just so he can keep up. His 17 struggles.

I’d still take a newer Silverado over a Tacoma. Silverado will pull so much more, gets the same gas mileage and has more room. They all have issues. I wouldn’t worry about the 10 guys online who trashed a trans.

Its great to hear good things on GM. They were so great in the past, the TOYOTA of yesterday. They developed and patented fuel injection and licensed it to Bosh because America was not concerned with fuel efficiency like the rest of the world was back then.
And now they hang by a thread with government help and remaining patents and licenses.

They were so good back in the day that Rolls Royce was using their A/C system and auto transmissions because they were the best for that size vehicle.
Hope they make it back someday, but I’ll never go back till TOYOTA screws up bad and they get a whole lot more concerned with quality.

I had a Silverado but it was the 5.3 V8. My buddy has the 6 cylinder and has described it as unpressive.
I miss the auto option between rearwheel and 4hi on the cheby.

The Tacoma is for fishing, home cheapo, light camping. That said, If I really need to load it down heavy, it will pull and get me to and back while the Chebby is down with a leaking axle, no thanks lol!

Guess some people are just die hard Toyota people. The third gen Tacoma to me has nothing to offer. Looks good that’s about it. Like I said if my Tacoma wasn’t given to me after my grandparents passed away, I’d probably be driving a Silverado myself.

The Tacoma has great re-sale value the chevy can't even dream of. Trade it for what you like, why suffer, life's too short

Never said I didn’t like it. It’s paid for runs good looks good, and has stupid low miles.(72k now 36k when I got it) Other things in life id rather spend that monthly payment on.

You'll hear good and bad stories on each. However look at each at 100k miles, for a Tacoma that's just starting to settle in. For a Chevy truck that's getting nearish to the end of it's life cycle and the resale value reflect this.

If this is going to last you a couple of years than get whatever has the features you want.

I own both. My dad drives a 21 GMC 1500 Altitude, X91 package, 3.0 duramax. I own a 21 Tacoma, TRD Offroad ACLB. Refinement wise? GM smokes the Tacoma. But which do i ENJOY more? Tacoma. That GM pulls better, shifts smoother, is roomier, and is way better on fuel, but theres something about my little Tacoma that I just adore. If you take all the stats at face value, this truck should suck. But every time I hop behind the wheel I get this shit eating grin on my face, and I'll never give this truck up. It does amazing for what it is, truely a case of something being more than the sum of its parts.

So basically, do what makes you happy. Who gives a fuck which truck gets better mpg towing specifically 3,365 lbs, or technically has more room, or is smoother. Just get what makes you happy.
