    Good morning folks

We're talking pretty serious about getting one of these, guy across the street has had one for several years and said that when the power goes out he doesn't even know it. I guess I'll be doing some heavy research in the near future.

Friend of mine who works for the power company put one in, he has to leave when the storms come and his wife is on dialysis every day. He searched around and Lowe’s beat everybody’s price.

My wife works at an electric co-op, I'm hoping someone there has an idea of what size and what needs to be done. (Although we've talked about this for years and stil haven't gotten one)

Just go to the generac website and sign for a free home eval. There’s a calculator there also

    Thanks!!
I was looking around a little bit yesterday...there's several companies that make them (Kubota, Briggs...) but Generac seems to be the most common.

It's looking like roughly $5k (for my house) before installation, gas hook-up and whatever else. I'm thinking if we can run our entire house for say $8k, and never have to worry again about power outages...that peace of mind may be worth it. I've worried all week about our power going out and pipes freezing, luckily it hasn't happened but I got a few extra grey hairs in the process.

That’s sounds about right. Think I have a rough estimate at 10K because I want small building to install it in that matches the house

I think my buddy paid around $10k, once he told me that I just keep hooking the welder to the house

I don’t want to spend the money either but I’m tired of these storms and losing power. Plus I got told by the wife to get it done

We had a bad ice storm (not that there's a good one) several years ago and ended up staying with friends for 6 days because our power was out. By the time we left I'm not sure they were our friends anymore. That incident alone would have been worth the :spending:
