....Is this something I should be doing? o_O I have a forced hot water w/ propane hot water heater setup. I should take a look at regular maintenance, being a responsible home owner, y'know?

I do actually have a project for this summer - I want to change the power source to an outlet in the room rather than I think right now it's direct wired to the breaker. If I can get a plug in (ideally a 110!) to run the whole thing, I could in theory run it off a generator and have heat if the power goes out, so long as the gas is flowing still, I would have whole house heat. And I am thinking about chucking a wood stove in my fireplace (dinky) and would have heat no matter what. In theory.

    Giggity!

We have a pellet stove that we use, so my baseboards don’t get used much. Programmed for little usage, and I have found flushing each zone in the fall seems to help keep the pipe noises down.

I need to replace the pressure relief valve on my furnance/tankless hot water heater. It's been leaking the past few months and progressivly getting worse. I have a 5 gal bucket under the discharge and it's probably leaking 4 gallons a day. I last replaced it in 2016, and for ~$40 I can't really complain. But I have been too lazy to shut it down, let it cool off, and replace the valve even though i've got a new one sitting next to my furnace.

It failed back in 2016 and flooded my basement which was cool. I'm just being lazy.

One way of forcing yourself to mop your floors :notsure:

I really want to go to electric tankless for my hot water heater, but my panel is only 100a service in the house. I need to upgrade the panel to 200a service, which means I have to have an electrician do it. I need 3 40a breakers to run the EcoSmart 27. I'll wire circuits all day, but there is no way in hell I would ever touch the live power feed going to the panel. No thank you! It's also kinda a bummer that I have to go with such an overkill heater, but my well water comes out at like 38 degrees lol. I need firepower!

I'm wondering how many thousands they'd try to charge me to put in a panel

I'm at 100A too. If I want to really add anything I would have to go to 200A. If I wanted to put in a pool, or an electric car charger, 200A would be needed.

What kind of heat do you have? Tankless and FHW systems are a no-no, will burn it out and they won't warranty it.

Well, you can have ^^ this guy install the bumper using a nice cut off wheel or...
VV This guy who's tool set consists of a hammer and a welder

meh, something to keep an eye on but not something I actively 'look at'. The system sounds different if it's air bound so I just pay attention to it when I first turn it on for the season to make sure it's not air bound and hot water is flowing through the system as it should.

We've got a combo forced hot water furnace/ tankless hot water heater. Maybe it's just old, but it sucks. When the heat kicks on it'll divert hot water from the sink/ shower/ etc... It's very annoying in the winter when you're trying to fill the tub for a bath for the giblets and the damn hot water keeps going out.

Just get some like 2ga bare copper wire, bend it into a hook, go and toss it over your nearest distribution line, then just run it into your breaker. #allthepoweryouneed.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mike......I haven't heard of any issues from the 20+ installs I have done so far......

We have propane forced hot air/central air. We have a very short crawlspace in the house, so we have a 20 gallon electric hot water heater  It's good for approx 8-10 minutes of showering. Then we have to wait at least an hour to heat back up, then we're good to go. It makes the bedtime routine a bit annoying.

I'd be game to wire up the panel, but I don't want anything to do with those power wires coming from the meter. Big scary!
Luckily for me, the majority of that job entails the use of hammers, ratcheting hammers, cutoff hammers, and maybe a welding hammer. I've got the tools needed! :smash:
I can imagine that's nightmarish. The GF's mom's place has hot water from the furnace as well, and it goes instantly cold if someone else turns on any kind of water, hot or cold. I never understood the phenomenon.

I'm looking to add the electric tankless to save on costs maintaining/reheating the tank all day and night, and to provide my girl with the long and scalding showers she loves and deserves. Also if I'm not mistaken, the water heater we have now is from 2003... And we are using it hard.

I spent a lot of money on a tankless setup when I built my house in 2002 and it sucked. If you have a woman that likes to take a bath every once in a while, FORGET IT. It will fill a bathtub with lukewarm water. I actually had to install a hot water tank right next to the tankless for the damn woman to take a bath. Showers, not a problem. But a tub of bathwater? Not enough powa.

It would actually be great if you came down. We could tackle each end of it separately.

Ours is circa 2004 from when the house was built, but it's not anything more than a contractor special unit, so it's likely due to be replaced anyways.

Yeah, maybe they've gotten better since that era but it was enough to leave a lasting impression. It was a very expensive unit, cost me like $4200. And then I had to install a fucking conventional water heater anyway. Can you imagine?! I should have divorced her then.
