If doing the turbo, it might be more worthy to do like @BananaMan said.

I thought I read somewhere that people thought it was killing hp, but honestly I would only need it to pass smog. May sound crazy but as long as there is no check engine lights you can pass smog a lot easier than if there are CELs even with the strict rules out here.
Haha yea thats what I was thinking of.

Welding onto the OEM flange, for turbo primaries, would be the easiest way to keep the SAIS.

I think I’ll save the stock headers for a future date of chopping and getting a proper manifold made and to start out ill use the cheap chinese manifold and I can use the bypass when taking the truck to smog.

Going to talk to my builder today but I think I am going to go with stock crank/rods and do apr studs, lce pro valve train kit (0-20 psi), and balance shafts delete. I do not plan on pushing anywhere near 20 psi. I want fast spooling and a max of like 10 psi. Of course the boost is going to depend on tuning options. Fingers crossed ovtune comes through on this.

I highly recommend the SAIS block off kit from Hewitt. I had bought one to test from them, and it works perfectly.

Like @Torspd said, definitely beef up the Chinesium welds if you get their manifold. I'd also highly recommend getting the flanges faced at a machine shop. I've had issues with gasket leakage due to the mating surfaces of the mild steel.

I have a GT2871R and it spools nice and quick, it's great for around town driving and messing around, but not so small you're driving around in boost.

You can't just block off the SAIS. It will put the truck into limp mode. You need the kit that @dirtdigginjoe mentioned, but I've read varying reviews on here of the kit and tales of lacking customer service.

Maybe it can be disabled in the Ovtune software. :notsure:

They say they've been working on this for awhile now. Is there any indication the 2nd gen 2.7 stuff is coming out soon?

A few pages back in here one of the posters said he was receiving the software from them for the 2.7. I forget the username at the moment.

Gotcha. So still just a waiting game until Ovtune puts the info up.

Probably. But I like the idea of it being information that they give out and say "here's a link to buy" as opposed to all of us individually trying to figure out what to do. It can be cool to feel like you're getting info from a friend that no one else has but we need a mass production product to help the community in general. We all win.

The problem is we're a niche market for performance. No one buys a 2.7l Tacoma because it's fast or because they can tune it like a WRX/Civic/BMW. When you deal with such a small base, many times it's going to be those private emails/PM's that get you what you need. Almost anyone who's done performance builds has had to work their ass off to get information and test to see what works and what doesn't.

I totally agree it'd be nice to have the info readily available and publicized, but that's just not realistic for us. The amount of PM's I'd gotten from members asking me where I "bought my kit from" was staggering- I stopped answering because telling people "There is no kit and no guideline or part list I had to work from" got old after the 30th message. I spent MONTHS going through almost every page of the turbo bs thread, Kirk's build, studying pictures, and trying to find the parts I knew I needed to make it possibly work. I figured out the wiring for my AEM F-IC myself by tearing through the wiring harness diagrams and cutting up my actual harness because Boomslang doesn't offer anything I can use. I put a Lotek pillar pod on without issue after many people told me it wouldn't fit in the 2.5gen. I bought a Hewitt Tech SAIS bypass not knowing if it'd work- even after Hewitt told me they haven't been able to test it on a 2.5gen. I took chances even after doing research, and it happened to work out for me.

Sorry for venting, I hadn't been on in a while and checked my Inbox to find about 18 messages about the above hahaha.

I think he said there are some subtle differences in the 2.7 ECU so he's still looking at as many as he can to try and come up with a standard setup. At least that's what it sounded like from what I read.

lots of info, users, etc there.

We are only providing software to allow end users to tune, so it will just be basic info about how the software works etc.

There has been support for some 2.7L ECUs in our software for a while now, but there doesn't seem to be much *legitimate* interest.

Hey y’all, I searched as to what the SAIS is and does, and I am confused as to why it needs to be blocked off/and why it’s not recommended for street use

It's the secondary air injection system, used to lower the emissions on our trucks. So if you live in an area with emission testing you may not pass if you have it deleted. The reason we talk about deleting it especially for a turbo application, is that it is a system that could lead to engine failure when going for high performance. I'm doing it to simplify the engine and reduce the number of variables that could lead to failure. And because there aren't any turbo manifolds that have the system in them.

So by doing this I am effectively making the car more reliable? Are there any down sides?
