    I've also had at least a dozen traps vanish over the year while nailing those little bastards. Only way to keep them is to tie them to something with fishing line. Got big mouse and vole issues here, must trapped well over 100 this year alone. At least i haven't had anymore wiring damage.

    So, I briefly was storing my truck on some property with a insane amount of pack/wood rats. I'd read enough about the damage they cause and did what I could do to prevent that from happing. I used the rid-a-rat device in the engine bay and never had an issue... But I had it parked in a newly constructed metal building which didn't have a poured slap floor (only compacted decomposed granite). So not super tight against pests. Did catch a few in traps in the metal building but never had an issue in the engine bay.

    But, the neighbor had an RV that stayed parked outside and I noticed he had these metal (8" tall) rings around his tires. I asked him about it and he told me that he was having problems with the rats/mice in his RV so he had an HVAC guy cut some metal sheets that had tabs folded into each end that when folded around the tire the ends could attach to form a ring around the tires. He said he has never had an issue since. I guess if they can't crawl up the tires, they have no other way in.

    I thought it was a pretty clever idea. It would be somewhat of a pain to do it every time you parked. Would add 3 minutes to your day, but considering the amount of times this has happened and the cost it might be a small inconvenience worth going through.

    Yeah, I don't know then. :notsure: Wasn't thinking about squirrels, but not sure how a mouse/rat could climb the slick surface of sheet metal. Jump... for sure a possibility.

    Hell, I guess you could do 12", at least I could around my tires.

    FWIW. I have seen rats jump from the ground into the top of a garbage bin. The leap was a little over 3 ft.

    12" is just a warm up hop.

    Update: Got my truck back today and it is alive. Spent the weekend re-arranging my garage and moving stuff around. But i'm finally able to fit/park my truck in the garage so in the long term i hope as long as i park in the garage that i'm fine.

    I'm still planning to clean my engine bay this week, spray it down with peppermint spray, and utilize some of the ultrasonic/LED repellants.

    Still running snap traps. Finally got my first kill last night, pretty good size rat. We had a good amount of snow the past few days and i'm assuming they got desperate lookng for food/shelter and found my trap.
    Appreciate everyone's help

    Not much on the 07 yet. 18 is gone, but was a greata truck. TRD Pro grill, Gator FX3, Homelink mirror, Black out badges & exhaust tip, Remote start. Future TRD exhaust, skid plate.
    I have about 2 or 3 feral cats around now, and I haven't seen mice in my garage all winter, which I normally do out here in the country.
    But now I have a problem with cats using my flowerbeds as a litter box, so the problems never end, lol.

    I've tried everything when it comes to rodents including getting traps traps and chemicals. I soon realized that the only way is to get someone who specializes in exterminating them once and for all.
