Hey guys, I would like to make my Tacoma loud and throaty without cutting the cats out.

In your opinion, what should I throw on to make my truck loud and throaty?

    Thanks

with out cutting cats u can get the sound of a baffleness of the flowmaster, or u can get a straight through sound with a magnaflow... u can also get some short tube hearders to add a little throaty. but if u want loud, ur gonna have to gut some cats

I think tacoskim is right...It is only a V6. You'll have to go extreme if you want REAL deep throaty sound.
I think that you'll hear that flowmaster is the best for sound...Keep in mind that if you start to change your headers and stuff for sound you'll change your performance.

^That's your best bet. Hell, throwing the Magnaflow on mine made a world of difference in sound alone.

would you say one is better than the other as far as cat back kit?

    Also, do headers improve sound?

yes, headers do improve sound as well as decrease back pressure and improve horse power in the rpms. a catback kit will also reduce back pressure. with a kit you are only looking at a 3-5 gain in horse power. though. the shorty headers only remove the rear cats. so you still have a set on your truck. long tube headers remove ever thing. including the catalytic converters

doug thorley makes the preferred headers. and yes, they simply bolt on to the engine mount. after you remove the factory headers of course. they remove the cats by cutting and welding. they cut off the front cat and leave the back one. then, they weld the remaining cat with together with the new perfomance headers. http://www.urdusa.com check with these guys about your headers, they normally have them

Shorter the Muffler the louder it is. I also think the shorter the more ricey they sound. If I were you I would get the bigger one. And stay away from MagnaFlow if you want deep rumbley sound, my experience with MagnaFlow has been ricey with my Taco.

DEFINITELY won't pass in NJ (I lived there for 29 years).

Check my info on the left there for the model# Magnaflow I and others have.
