So $2k for a shit lift kit? I'm sure this made the sales managers happy now that they can tart up and SR and ask $48k for it like it's a Pro

Maybe I am in the minority here but I think this is a good move for Toyota.

Keep in mind, many of the folks on this site are experts (of course, not including myself). Folks here probably have more hours off road on lifted Tacomas than the TRD engineers. So the view here is from the perspective of an expert.

But from the perspective of the average Tacoma buyer this could be very attractive. Many are generally aware of lifts but don't know where to begin. They may not know a good lift shop, have the skills to do a lift themselves or may be overall intimidated by the whole process. The idea they can get Toyota parts, with a Toyota warranty from a dealer could have a widespread appeal. The target market for this would be the casual off roader -- someone who wants a lift but really doesn't want to dive into the whole thing and make a big project of out it.

The other thing is Toyota may be doing this for dealers ... It would not surprise me if they were hearing from their dealers that they wanted something in terms of the TRD accessory line to get a piece of the after market off road business. This gives them something to offer in that area with a compelling fear tactic message -- if we do it, it is under warranty. If someone else does it, it is not. It also gives the dealer something to horse trade with -- reduce the price, add in the lift, raise the price, lower the price on the lift. All part of the sales process that the dealer can play with when putting together a deal.

Overall, smart move for Toyota and its dealers.

I think it is also an acknowledgment that one of the biggest features of the Tacoma is the ability to customize ... this keeps that going and gets a small foot in the door for Toyota.

It will be interesting to see how many of these kits they are able to upsell. I see a lot of the TRD skid plates (mostly on trucks that are never going off road!).

toyota will put a spacer lift on a tacoma and increase the mrsp by $10,000. I don't trust this "$2,000" option

You're spot on. For the average consumer that might drive off the beaten path, but not do any serious off-roading, this is an easy choice.

I also forgot to mention, as someone else here did, that this gets rolled into the overall purchase and financed.

To be honest, I would consider this. I don't have a shop nearby that I feel super comfortable with (in NY there are not that many) and I don't have the skills or the time to do it myself. Something with a TRD logo on it that was under warranty from Toyota would be appealing.

But I am also not doing hard core off roading / rock crawling. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the most off road), I think I am doing a four at best. So for someone like me this would be a good option ... I have to think it would be that way for many others.

I’m a bit confused, is this kit meant for trucks rolling off the truck before a buyer takes delivery? Or can I purchase this kit? I just bought my TRD OR DCSB a month ago and 1100 miles on it. Wondering if it’s possible to pull into dealership, order kit and make install appt?

I was in the same boat compadre, traded in my old SR5 for a new Offroad & read about this kit like a week afterward. Was able to order through the dealer and have it installed no problem. Like 3 days total from me making the call to the parts dept. to driving off w the kit installed.

I do think most dealers will be installing these as soon as they get their inventory in. Giving a buyer the option to roll the cost into their overall financing will be a big selling point I think.

I called dealership on Monday for clarification, and he didn’t seem to know much about it. Said he would call me back, have not heard back. Guess I will make another phone call tomorrow. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Thanks for your help. Your taco is sick!

I’m thinking of staying stock tire size but with duratracs. 265/70

So a lift. Well, seems to me a new trad off road with this lift is a better deal than a new pro

I'm sure many dealers will install it on their Tacomas on the lots, but most of the people seeing reading thread already have their Tacoma.

Im sure it’ll work just fine but you may get an extra .5” since you don’t have any differential weight in the front

    A few.
Looks to be a little lacking compared to the 2" lift Mopar is offering for the Jeep Gladiator.
