    Hello All,

New here. Recently purchased a new to me 2018 TRD Pro. First pickup truck for me and primarily for camping and lake.

I have seen a few photos of Tacomas with what appear to be 8-12 inch wide black or various colored door protectors/bumpers, I may have the termonology wrong. Every time I search I can only find sill protectors or edge protectors. The door protectors interest me do to careless people with carts and not watching their doors. I am assuming most of these are stick on or use field fasteners, preferably stick on.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? I have seen them a few times but every time I see them I forgot to screen shot or keep the link, else I would have posted them here.

Also does anyone know a good low cost nerf bar / boards that’s bolt directly to the frame? I don’t do much off roading except at hunting leases but nothing extreme and no rock crawling. But I would like some protection and a step. I believe a truck is a truck and not going for a particular look.

    Thanks again.

Body side molding, but I prefer the plastic Oem running boards that came with the 2nd gen Tacomas

Yes I think I do, they are made by a company called air design. They sell door pods, tailgate cover along with something for the front bumper, flares, spoiler and some others.

It kind of looks like something that someone in the rust belt would buy to cover up rotten fenders and bed sides.

Rock sliders can help with that, and IMHO, they look better. I wouldn’t describe them as “bumpers” but they do stick out a bit past the cab, especially the 0 (and other low) degree ones.

CaliRaised makes this specific set. But there are a bunch of brands that make a similar product. RCI, Mobtown, CBI. Search “sliders” on here, and there are probably more threads than you care to read.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-3rd-gen-slider-thread.404463/

Probably not a full list of manufacturers but it has a lot of them

    And what are rock sliders?
    https://www.roundforge.com/articles/rock-sliders-and-rocker-guards/

If you want to protect from door dings then you are looking for 0 degree sliders or regular nerf/step bars. The neft/step bar will be cheaper but is only good for adding a step up point and door dings. 0 degree rock sliders with a kickout in front of the rear wheels will also add an easy step point beside the bed of the truck while also protecting the back half of the truck when in tight turns from things that jump out at you such as trees if off roading or those yellow poles in parking lots. They just push the truck away from such things instead of letting it get a bite of the truck.

People always seem to find new ways to ding your vehicle in areas that are protected by door guards, 3M film, etc.

Even when you park away from people you find a shopping cart near your truck.

Twice now I have been sitting in my truck in a parking lot while some dingleberry has slammed their door into me. The sound of a tin can car door being slammed into my steel tube rock sliders makes me laugh so hard I nearly piss myself every time!! If you want something protective, yet doesn't protrude, check out Shrockworks sliders for the Tacoma. I won't have another truck without sliders..

I run AMP research retractable running boards. I mainly got them because my wife is only 5'2" and had a hard time climbing into the Tacoma. The AMP running boards retract automatically when not in use, which in my opinion looks much better, than having a permanent running board that sticks out all the time. Which reminds me of a 70's hippy van. Also you can manually deploy the AMP boards when you park and they serve as door protectors.
