The code came back after 500+ miles of driving and I am at the dealer this morning. The code is Pending, so nothing that they can do now. Rough idle/misfire is the issue.

Curious where you are located since another Tacoma is in the shop here now completely torn apart for a bad valve in the #1 cylinder. Dealer is indicating that they are starting to see this issue come in, but still waiting on direction from Toyota.

Before I left the dealer today, they were able to replicate the issue and they have been directed by Toyota to tear down the engine for a possible broken valve spring in the #1 cylinder. I left the dealer with a loaner vehicle for an indefinite period of time... 47,000 miles on the vehicle so still within the powertrain warranty.

At the shop for one week now. Indicated that are replacing the cylinder head. Online prices, $1,100 just for the head.

So are you still under warranty? Or are they charging you for the cylinder head replacement?

All under the power train warranty. I have 3,000 miles left on the warranty. Loaner car provided for the full duration of the repair. Knowing the actual costs will help with decisions on how long to keep this vehicle. My 2nd gen had zero repairs in 100,000 miles. That vehicle is now with my father in law and I am stuck with the 3rd gen headaches.

Man, sounds like you have had some issues with your 2018, but at least Toyota has taken care of it under warranty. Here to the next many miles without any issues

Getting the truck back today. Conclusion is a burnt exhaust valve in cylinder #1 which reduced compression in that cylinder by 20%. Toyota replaced the full cylinder head.

Still no official notice of when the fuel pump will be replaced.I have searched online to know that the vehicle is part of the recall.

Had the same code P11EC. Dealership thought it was for the low pressure fuel pump recall. Had that replaced. Light came back on. Now they are replacing cylinder #1. Almost 45k miles on 2018 TRD Sport. I asked if this is a problem with the other 5 cylinders and they said they've never seen this before. Told me it would have been a $6k repair if not under powertrain warranty.

Same here. I think teh bill to Toyota was about $4k with the reduced labor rate for warranty work.

Fuel pump is now replaced too. Hopefully good to go now.

I recently bought a 2019 Tacoma with 33k miles and a CEL came back with the same code. Truck is now at dealership getting the cylinder head replaced. one of the reason I bought a Tacoma was because of it's reliability, I so regret getting this truck.

I documented mine on this site before, trading it in at the advice of the Toyota mechanic. Mine was 2018 with 32000 miles.

My 2019 is at the dealership as we speak. Light came in about a week ago. P11EC on a cheap scanner. Erased it. 4 days later came back on when I was out of town. Cruise control will not work with CEL on so I reset it again. Got home. Light came back on. Brought it in two days ago and left it overnight. They called yesterday and told me they are not very familiar with code but seems to be running fine. I told them light will come back on immediately but they insisted I took it home and drive it more. This morning drive vehicle exactly 35 miles. Light back on and truck now back at dealership awaiting diagnosis. 2019 TRD Off Road. DCLB. 57,600 miles.

just got my truck back after a month at the dealership, apparently some valves broke inside the head and they had to refresh the engine with almost every component replaced. They gave me a list of 3 pages with all the parts they replaced and the grand total was around $6k good thing it was covered under warranty and I didn't have to pay a cent. They don't know what caused this but they said it's becoming more common on the 3.5 engines.

I just posted about this on my 2018. It’s at the dealer now and Toyota approved of the engine tear down. Cylinder 1 misfire so far. Getting a Sienna tomorrow as my loaner. Need something for the bikes and community work.

I would let them fix it and then trade it in. If this becomes a widespread 3rd gen issue in the future it could affect your trucks value. If you decide to keep it, I would definitely negotiate with Toy corporate to get a extended platinum warranty.

I have replaced the bank 1 head on 4 2GR-FSK engines now for this. 3 in a Tacoma and one in a Highlander. And 2 other techs have done one each. Every one has been a 17 or 18 with 40-46000 miles. Every one of them has a leak from the exhaust valve. No obvious damage or defect. Just the valve isn't sealing to the seat. I have yet to see any on the 16 and 19 up engines.
