Anyone have a chance to try these in snow/ice/winter conditions yet?

I got them on just in time. They work great in the snow, however, I don't get a chance to drive in the snow much living in the Dallas area.

Hope you’re enjoying the snowpocalypse! Got the right vehicle for it at least.

Did you have a chance to drive in any slicker ice-y/less crunchy patches? Any trouble slowing/stopping?

I didn't see much ice and don't have much of a basis for comparison since we rarely get this type of weather. Hopefully someone with more winter weather experience can provide some feedback.

So are most guys opting for these in SL? Trying to decide between these and Nitto Ridge Grapplers, and SL vs. E load. Anyone coming to these from Nitto Ridge Grapplers?

I want these because they come in SL - An E rated tire on a Tacoma is total overkill and really adversely impacts the performance of the truck.

I’ve been reading up on the whole SL, C, E debate and it seems folks are still split, so I’m on the fence. I guess I’ve just been wondering if these E tires are still lighter than other brand E and would possibly offer better performance on the taco. Or if I’m really better off with the SL even if taking off-road.

There seems to be a relative lack of aggressive ATs in C load for 16/17” wheels. Seems odd.

If you wheel often in rough terrain where recovery is difficult, you're better off with an E, no question. For someone like me who's rarely off road but in the snow/ice 1/4 of the year I just want something a little more aggressive that's good in weather which is why I'm looking at these in SL. ~39lbs is one of the lighter A/T options available in 265/70R17 along with the Toyo AT3.

You can get creative if you want a C, though. For example you can get K02's in 255/75R17 that weigh 46lbs each (32" tires) and probably not have to do any trimming.

Yep this. Using "where recovery is difficult" is a good qualifier.

For me too, I live where it snows, so 3-Peak rating is critical. I'm off asphalt virtually every time I drive the truck, but my off roading is mostly forest roads/dirt roads.

Rarely, rarely, like, once a year maybe, rock crawling. Even though I'm in Moab a couple times a year, I'm mostly on what you'd call a road. So an E-rated tire makes no sense plus the toll an E-rated tires takes on how the truck rides is not worth the compromise.

Also, pay attention to the weight ratings. C-rated tires typically have a lower weight rating than an SL rated because C-rated tires are designed primarily for jeeps. Things that never tow or haul things.

Couple dumb questions if you guys don’t mind:

-Are ya’ll just ordering these online and having them installed after arrival? I can’t seem to find anywhere near me that has them in-stock/procurable
-Dumber question - there’s no rubbing if I keep the exact same size as stock (265/70R16), right? Had a coworker tell me even tires the same ‘size’ as stock could cause rubbing.

I contacted my local Discount Tire, they said they won't carry them. Les Schwab is listed as a retailer, but my local guys knew nothing about the brand. So I was going to give Simpletire a try. Lots of folks swear by them and they have a nice Veteran discount so the price is very competitive. I'm just waiting for my size to be available.

If you run the same size as stock, you won't have any rubbing. If you go up in size, you possibly could.

Oh there will be some mods all right
265/75/16 could have rubbing. I've never heard of any 265/70/16s rubbing

Great to know, both about the Simpletire & the vet discount (I’ll take what I can get!)

So I just did a thing:

Simpletire has the OEM 2657/70R16 SL back in stock.

I absolutely will! I can't believe I'm this excited for new tires. The OEM Goodyears are rubbish. I got stuck in a snowy parking lot last night. Not ice, just wet snow. Those stupid Goodyears just move you sideways, you know, into rocks and parked cars.

I'm in...was in....the market for my 3rd set of tires w/ the first being Toyo Open Country R/Ts and the second were Yokohama Geolander MT-G003s. I was looking hard at the Toyo AT3s and the Yoko X-ATs and then these popped up in my search. I like the price, the specs look good, and the limited write ups out there are positive so I just pulled the trigger on a set of LT285/70r17s from Simple Tire. I've never used them before but there aren't a lot of places selling them and the mitary discount is nice. If everything goes according to plan I should have them installed early next week.

I just got my confirmation from SimpleTire this morning. I called the shop SimpleTire coordinates with for installation because they are too far away for me to do a "drop-off" - I need them done while I wait, and they were super friendly and accommodating. I'm scheduled for new sneakers Thursday morning.

I'm in SLC. It's supposed to be 60 degrees this week, but you never know. I got stuck in a snowy parking lot on Thursday. They can't be worse than these dog shit Wranglers. :)
