Ok, it is a possibility that the filter housing cracked. Oil shouldn't spray out of anything unless it is a area that sees oil pressure.

I really expect if you remove the filter housing and inspect it carefully you will see two o-rings or no o-ring, or a broken o-ring, or a cracked filter housing.

Hey OP, any chance you have TWO o-rings under your filter?

It might not spring a leak at first but once the oil works it’s way between them you’ve got a mess.

I cracked an oil filter housing on Scion Tc once. Same exact part as on 3g Tacoma’s. That crack allowed oil to spray when the engine was started. Check that.
