I have one of those! it’d be nice to be able to reach back if the adjuster is not lined up well enough to get to the next recess.

The HF pin punches work perfectly fine even when a hole isn't perfectly accessible. The whole shock will rotate enough to stab it in. I've adjusted mine a couple times with no problems at all. Think I paid like 5 bucks for the set. Just remember to leave access to the bolt when finished

All right you damn TW dudes... I finally finished reading this thread last week after several long evenings. I'm now way more versed in Tacoma suspension than I ever thought I'd be, considering I drive a 4Runner. Anyway, reading all these raving reviews finally convinced me to do it right and suck up the price tag (I'm in college), I ordered a set of 2.5s with resis for my 3rd gen 4Runner. So stoked! Hopefully I'll be putting them to use within the next 4ish weeks, and really getting my money's worth on Montana's abundance of fun forest roads this summer. Thanks all for the motivation!

You'll love them! I'm running the 2.5s with resis up front and the 2.5 piggyback shocks in the rear. This setup has been great on and offroad!

Anybody experiencing these topping out with minimal preload?

What’s your definition of minimal preload?

can you post pics of your shocks and post what size and rate springs you’re running?

@AccuTune Offroad just updated their preload tech article...

@Redbeardfifty There's another guy on here that's having the same issue. Tyler with ADS said to either use less preload and / or try cranking up the adjusters. I run full soft on road. I haven't tried adjusting them yet.
It's either top out or maybe just the tires slamming on the ground. ADS also said having extra weight up front causes the coils to store more energy which amplifies the downward travel and that these are built really strong and shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not violent.

It happens going over just speed bumps & humps.

what length and weight spring? Also, how much shaft is showing at ride height, or how much shaft is available for droop? And you should definitly adjust the comp adjusters. Its like having multiple shocks! I couldnt believe how much they change the ability of the shock.

I would start with 5 clicks in from full soft, then try 3 clicks from full hard, and last, do the exact middle. See how they feel. Id be willing to bet they wont ride all that mch different on the street except for anything over a bots dot sized bump...

but see if that helps change anything. If its the shock bottoming (compressing fully) or if its still clanging from not enough rebound or too much preload.

Last question is, with that UCA, do you have an extended travel version of the shock and not the oe travel (for stock control arms). The standard travel has less shaft travel, so your compressed shock dimensions will be the same, but the shaft will not extend (droop) as much as the extended travel due to an internal spacer.

If you haven’t trimmed your fenders, measure the length from the bottom of your fender flare to the center of your hubs. You really don’t want the measurement to be more than 23”, or 2” of lift over factory. 3rd gens come from the factory with about 1” of lift over 2nd gens (21” from fender to hub for stock 3rd gens), so you can’t really get 3” of lift and have a good mix of droop and compression as 3rd gens have the same suspension geometry as 2nd gens. This is all pertaining to stock width control arms as well, not long travel.

I’m running 22.5”, or the equivalent to 2.5” of lift on a 2nd gen, and experience very little top out anymore compared to when I mistakenly had what would be the equivalent of 3.5” of lift on a 2nd gen on mine and it maxed out just running over pot holes.

@Redbeardfifty 700lbs x 14" long coils. I have the extended travel (at least that's what I ordered). I don't have shaft measurements right now, but I'll mess around with the adjusters and report back if I find anything. Pretty sure they aren't fully compressing. Thanks
