I think I'm set with what you've given me, but appreciate the offer. It'll be with common PVS-14s,and a few of my buddies are with SOCOM units that use the MRZRs with your lights, so they could get me real world shots. I'm sure your sales mgr has better uses for his time.

Hey guys - Just wanted to share a brief announcement.

    Temporary LED Change
    Wednesday, February 17, 2021

Due to a global pandemic Baja Designs has experienced an increased scarcity of LEDs in our tightly controlled temperature range. This shortage affects our OnX6+, LP6, LP4, XL80, Squadron Pro, S2 Pro, and S1 series of lights. Rather than halting production at our San Marcos, CA facility, Baja Designs has opted to source LEDs in a lower color temperature range without sacrificing the performance and quality enthusiasts expect from Baja Designs. Beginning February 17th, 2021, Baja Designs will be shipping lights with a combination of LEDs ranging from 4000k-5000k.

Although we have long established that 5000k is the ideal color temperature, LEDs in the 4000-4500k color range are preferred to alternative LEDs more commonly available in the 5700K and up ranges. As such, we find that this solution is the most favorable option to continue manufacturing a premium product.

If you have any questions or concerns about this temporary LED change, you can ask here or DM me for more info.

Eh, it is to be expected. I think most people understand that this is an effort to give people the best possible outcome out of a situation that is for the most part out of our hands. Most respect that we are even putting the info out there, which is not typical of most operations.

One can certainly wait the 1-2 month period between now and when we get our normal supply back, or they can purchase the lights with a slightly lower temperature in the meantime. Most people in the know understand that this is not a shortcut or half-ass solution. Some would argue this is the preferred color range for their use... That said, there seems to be a few select groups that just want to crucify us for anything we do. :(:)

I don't think it's you - I think some people crucify everybody and everything. Really a terrible way to live.

Meanwhile, I love my Squadron Sport fog lights! They are nice and bright!

Agree. It really has to be exhausting being that negative all the time.

My company ships millions of LEDs for CREE each month to/from Asia...I don't think that there is necessarily a shortage, but the global supply chain is completely fucked right now, and that's understating how bad it really is.

It is a trickle down type of situation for sure. Some small hiccups that we could otherwise recover from without a stumble, are now 18 week long delays. There are certainly still ample LEDs out there in the world, but most are accounted for, and many are not within the very specific ranges in which we typically source from.

Only the specifically listed lights are affected. The Sport line uses a different LED. If you intend to put an amber lenses on the light anyway, you most likely will not notice a difference. The only people that would really be concerned are those that want all of their white light LEDs products from BD to match perfectly. Or if you have a very specific need for 5000K lighting. Most people would likely never have noticed aside from our announcement. We just want to be ultra transparent to make sure there are no surprises.

That is much appreciated! I know I would be super pissed if a new set of lights didn't match the 4 other sets of lights I had mounted already!

So I've been running my 20" ONX6+ bar and (2) XL racers for while. They have made a night and day difference and back roads night driving is WAY better than it was before. I've run the bar with amber and clear lenses (Driving combo both times). I find the bar brighter, overall, but almost prefer the XL Racers. Reason being that I find the bar seems to make the mid and near field so bright it makes the distant lighting seem not as bright. I know in part this is that the bar is on the bumper (lower) and and XL's on the A Pillar. Though this a lifted (4" stock lift) 4x4 Sprinter on 32's so it's not like the bumper is low to the ground.

Anyway, I'm wondering what the spot lens would do for me? I happen to like the peripheral lighting the bar provides. Is there a way to keep that and lose some of the light in the nearfield on the road in front of me (without just aiming the light up at the stars). Probably the best solution is a roof top bar, but that's not possible at the moment.

When we were going through all your lighting setup a while back I suggested going with a spot lens on the onx6 as there’s still a good amount of light spill off the main pattern. I showed pictures of my ditch mount XL80s with spot lenses at that time to specifically show this. The entire roadway side to side is well lit still. FYI XL80s use the same chips as the outer 4 leds on an onx6 10” section so it should be a pretty close comparison.

Seems like an eternity ago! I looked back and sure enough you did say that. Well, I guess I'll be placing an order to check that out.

For sure. We were out of town the other night and I was commenting to my wife just how much easier the extra lights made driving at night. It honestly made a HUGE difference. So much easier to see road conditions and any animals along the road side. One of the better upgrades I've done for sure.

Couldn’t agree more. Now all my vehicles get ludicrous lighting upgrades.
