That's where I tapped too, under the seat that is. 99% sure it's that black/red but you can always test it at the tail light pins to be sure. Or unplug the harness and test there.

oh I doubt it would move that much. But a few good smack aroos around on the trail would make it bounce up and down plenty Im sure and at some point would crack the case I'd think with it be aluminum and just pretty heavy. Glad you didn't find out though, a puked out tcase or tranny would suck.

I'd imagine it was the tie rod that needed heat. I had Firestone tell me that I needed new tie rods before so I ordered the part, started to tear into things to find that my tie rods were just fine. It was the steering rack that had play.

Got a poly bushing/OME shackle question for y'all

Going to be doing some Dakars next weekend on my truck and I can't remember how I wrapped up the install the first go around on my old truck 5 years ago. I think I did the following, but I feel like I'm missing something or doing something out of order.

    1. Grease bushing sleeve, inner bushing, and outer bushing flange face and install into leaf.
    2. Install leaf.
    3. Snug up the shackle bolts while in the air
    4. Pump some grease into them
    5. Put wheel back on and lower truck onto the ground
    6. Torque the shackles to the correct ft. lbs with truck weight on them

Nice! Would you mind posting a photo looking down the side to show the stick-out? I've been contemplating getting something like these.

Is there a good write up on installing LCA bushings? I can seem to find anything good. Got a set of whitelines I’m going to install tomorrow.

It's not a how-to write up like some, but here's a few of us replacing Mike's @Digiratus LCA bushings with Whitelines a while back:

Shop Day – the Red Head’s Rack

    Key points/things to note:
    • Utilized a couple different methods for pressing out the old bushings (press, bottle jack) that you can evaluate for yourself.
    • Putting in new bushings was easy, comparatively.
    • Make sure to have some cam hardware on hand (I'd recommend 4 sets, unless you know that your existing are good). That was the biggest issue for us in the whole process.
And remember, as Dan @drr always says, safety first. ;)

Thanks! I was thinking maybe I should call Toyota and see if they have some in stock, although I think mine are fine. I haven’t had a single bolt on my truck be seized yet in the 6 years I’ve owned it.

IIRC, 3 out of 4 of mine had to be cut out as the bolts were seized to the cam adjuster sleeves. It was totally unexpected as I too had never had any previous issues with bolts on the truck being seized.

We ended up spending several hours visiting 5 local dealerships to find enough pieces to make it work.
