I thought it would be from your description. Mine went out at 25,000 and was repaired under warranty and went out again exactly 5,000 miles later.

If you do have a leak you will see it at first on your power steering pump. Mine was there both times.

Huh. I thought the front main seal is in back of the timing chain cover. That's sucks! I got oil on my power steering pump... Son of A!:censored:

Hm, learn something new every day.

I guess the cool thing is you can easily inspect the filter media for contaminants without having to cut open a filter.

Sounds like I may have caused toyota to have a sudden surge in front main replacements. They have to drop the front subframe, oil pan, plenum, and valve covers just to get to it. Buckle up for having it at the dealership for a bit and make sure they align it when they are done.

Funny enough I did my oil for the first time today and the last dealer not only over torqued it but they didn’t put on either O rings or a crush washer. I will never take it to a dealer again. Never had a leak though

    tldr/ I don’t think it’s a missing o ring

I had the front timing cover seal go out on mine too, luckily it’s a well known issue so they took it in quickly. Took a little over week to get repaired. They had to take out the engine, and then tore it all down and replaced every single gasket in it (not sure why).
