Dropping in-Mid-Travel Madness!

Guess I will start with a front end teardown and refresh.

Stage 6,7 I lost count at this point...
We leave Todos Santos in the am and fill our trucks at the gas station and who do we see TacomaBeast filming this guy who I am talking to and this truck is sick. Turns out you can now view that video on YouTube. At one point we passed right through an area they were filming in.

 

Stage six had us flying down some sweet coastal roads and the trucks suspension was just eating up the terrain. So much to the point that our other truck running the yellow bilstiens tried to keep up and well you saw how that went in earlier picks. So most of that day was spent in the autozone parking lot. Autozone only had one in stock so we had to find another parts store. We found a set and were back to work getting them installed. Lucky there was an autoshop across the street that compressed the springs on to the new struts for 30$. Unlucky a cell phone was somehow lost in that transaction

We ended the night at camp in San Juanacio reunited with all the teams that were still in it.

 

This stage was about to take a turn as we headed up the coast to our next camp stage. With a amazing breakfast in scorpion Bay. And some fast trails we were on our way until??..Mud

 

Right about here is where it all went south. A hundred yards of wrong/missed the turn and Stuck.

 

After already experiencing some slippage this finished her. A couple hours of digging and getting pulled out by a uhg... Jeep she was out of the mud. We tried to get on our way but she wouldn't budge so we hooked up some tow straps and the other Tacoma on our team pulled me out of the desert onto the road and into San Ignacio.

We ended up in a pretty cool location.

 

A friendly RV park. Next on the list was to figure out how to get the truck 5o the finish line. I made the call to Ride Baja insurance and the process of getting a tow began. I have to say the Ride Baja crew really came through for me and I would not hesitate to buy Mexico auto insurance coverage from them again. That being said they said they were sending a representative to take care of me.

Turns out he is also the local ice cream man and was currently recording a podcast with SLOW BAJA who was also part of the rally/race and had to finish that up. Good thing for us there was a cervzesa store there so we cracked a few and had some dinner. He arranged a tow truck to pick us up in the AM. At this point we were wiped out and recalled that the guy said he had some clean rooms we could rent. We checked in and passed out.

 

Waking up in the morning we prepared for the tow. Well turns out the truck in my opinion was not up to the job and had to decline for safety reasons. Thankfully they let me cancel that one. With the truck having cooled dow overtime she was ready to go again.

 

we made another stop to take off the skids and de chunkify the transmission . Another stop at autozone for a quick trans fluid flush and we were back on the road headed to Catavina our last campsite of the mission. GETTING CLOSE TO THE FINISH LINE.

 

Fuck it, added to bucket list.

 

Cool again after sitting overnight we pressed on in the AM Trying to get to that finish line just past Ensenada at BajaMar golf resort.
Well we did not make it there instead having to pass through the city of Vincente Gurrero the stop signs and light shut us down as 1st and second gears were always the 1st to quit when it got hot.


We made the choices to tow from this point. So we waited for our next tow at a gas station that had a clean bathroom and a nice store.

 

2023!

 

We were now getting forward movement again.

 

This tow truck guy was a champ. He got us to the finish line and gave us some good ideas on how to get truck over the border. He told us of a guy who was a US citizen who would be able to tow us over the boarder to a Uhall where we would take it from there.

Ahhh the finish line!!!!
