Out of curiosity, I did a little research on steering quickeners and how they work. They're surprisingly inexpensive (~$100).

I'm curious where it gets installed on the Tacoma. I was guessing here, in place of the yoke. Just shorten the intermediate shaft to the appropriate length. Not sure where the quickener would mount though.

It completely replaces 45302a. We had u joints made that take it from Toyota spline to quick steer and then back to the Toyota rack. The quick steer has a weld on bracket that welds to the crossmember right below the motor mount

While I’m sure he does since hp tuners has been around for a while, there’s probably few that have dove into it for the tacomas as much as justdsm on here. He was a big part of helping them prior to releasing it to the public. Between one of his custom fuel/ ign tunes and my buddy nd4spdbh trans tune (he’s been totally nerding out on the trans side since it’s been released) you’re truck will really wake up. They really know what they’re doing and have had a great following for tuning tacomas since the hp tuner release for our trucks.

Sorry for not tagging them but they get enough questions over in the hptuner thread that was linked above.

Sorry to hijack but this is near and dear to me:

    It's all here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hptuners-the-tacoma-faq.705981/#post-25140685

No need to find a local tuner with HP Tuner (and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more knowledgeable or trustworthy than JustDSM anyway. He's the Harry/JD Fabrication of Tacoma tuners).

There are at least two options:
1). You can buy the HP Tuner cable and the credits you'd need for your VIN from HP Tuners, download the software to your computer then, use the cable to write the OEM tune file from your truck and save it to your computer. Email that file to JustDSM for his revision and then flash his revised tune file to your truck. If you know someone who'd let you use their HP Tuner cable, it would save you about $200.

2). The other step is to remove your ECU, pack it up safely in a box and snail mail it to JustDSM who will bench flash a revised map and send it back to you.

JustDSM will walk you through the whole process. He is amazingly knowledgeable and last I checked, does this for pennies on the dollar compared with other "tuners". My truck runs worlds better with his tune than the OEM map (the 2012+ Tacos have notably softer mapping than previous versions). Worth every penny.

speedo still works. The brakes still work as well despite comments from Matt that the rears won’t with the fuses pulled. I jacked it up and checked to confirm.

If he can get that deep into the cpu, can he disable all the warnings on my dash? Would love to have those lights turned off including the center display screen that cycles through about 5 warnings so you can really use it. My understanding is tech stream can’t do it.

Are you sure he wasn't talking about the ABS not working???? Brakes are mechanical so even with fuses pulled, ABS sensors missing, etc they are still going to work. It would be dumb and dangerous to have a braking system that doesn't work if one little electrical killed it.

I'll have to look into sending out the ecu, my truck isn't going anywhere for a while anyway.

Yeah. He was pretty adamant. Said only the fronts when fuses were pulled. It came up when discussing the Gen 3 supercharger Dyno someone was doing and looked bad. Assumed his was an 18 and mine 20 so different. He’s usually not wrong about this stuff.
