Man, you and others would probably be happy with the lift Toyota is offering. As you indicated, it would be silly for them to produce and sell it if it wouldn't work out for people at least as well as a stock suspension set up.

If you want to inquire about this with them, maybe point out the issue surrounding 5100s for instance when used with stock length coils. Ask them if this set up uses a pre load on the shock or if using stock coils on the highest perch notch (presumably the one that gets you 2" or whatever is advertised) will lead to a reduction in the travel of the shock or the potential for damage.

I'd love to know that they've thought this out well.

Anyone have a valid reason why it wouldn’t be offered on other years such as the 2019.
Yes I don’t have a camera but I have all that other TSS stuff.
I like this option for resale, some people get all freaked out when they see aftermarket lifts on used trucks.

This is what I was thinking as well, plus most cars are trade-ins back to dealers which would make things a little easier. No clue why the year makes that much of a difference, maybe someone with more info can help.

Experts here probably know more than most but I wanted to share this article as background:

"The new TRD Lift Kit, which Toyota announced Wednesday, is the only one of its kind that's been validated by the company's engineers to be compatible with the truck's driver-assistance suite. Available for Tacoma V6 4x4 models, the TRD kit offers 2 inches of front suspension lift and a 1-inch lift at the rear.

The key to this upgrade is actually in the grille. Toyota's TRD kit includes a redesigned grille just like the one on the Tacoma TRD Pro, which has a Toyota Safety Sense millimeter-wave sensor and camera support bracket that allow the existing TSS tech to work as advertised following installation. On the Tacoma, the standard Toyota Safety Sense equipment includes precollision braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control."

Edit: Judging by the interest here (granted this is a small sample) I think Toyota has a hit on their hands with this.

Does anyone know how much the recalibration costs at this point? My dealer supposed to get back to me with a price and still has not.

It may have already been asked, but is there a reason this kit won’t fit on a 2019?

Here is the install info. It works for both trucks with and without the front camera.

    Reading the press release:

At the heart of the kit are new monotube Bilstein shocks that adopt digressive valving to provide improved on- and off-road vehicle dynamics. Specifically designed to complement the additional lift, each Bilstein shock is fitted with new TRD red dust boots and “Tuned by TRD” graphics. Offering more than good looks, the front shocks provide an additional 2 inches of lift thanks to the adjustment of the coil spring position on the shock tube. The front shocks also improve off-road performance thanks to extended rebound stroke that makes use of the additional suspension travel...”

Does that answer the question about travel?

I’m betting on TRD tuned 5100’s.

So I haven’t seen it specifically mentioned so figured I’d ask. Is the new grill compatible with the multi-terrain mode on the 2020 off road?

Thanks! I'm actually now on the fence. Live in GA, and we have some shitty forest service roads at times/places where I think would be an issue with bottoming out and not having the travel needed. I am talking with Headstrong OffRoad about their OME Coil/Bilstein 5100 Kit (HS16BK-1) (Link) with wither 885 or 887 coils, and 3 Leaf AAL. I pricing out a diamondback tonneau, rack, and RTT, and think the leaf over the block would benefit me more, as well as the longer coils. I do like the idea of the PRO grill and all the safety feature staying intact, but I want my suspension to have all the functionality to keep me rolling along as smooth as possible.

Would it make sense to go with the kit from Toyota, then add the coils and leafs from Headstrong, or just go with the kit from HS?

Hmmm... So I wouldn't necessarily need to add the longer coils to prevent bottom out issues up front?
