Hopefully some of y’all can tell me where to troubleshoot next.

At about 60k miles I changed my brake pads and rotors because they were squealing, but after I changed them the squealing still exists.

it only happens at parking lot speeds and when I’m just about stopped at stop signs and lights. It doesn’t happen if I’m just braking at a moderate speed, just when I’m actually coming to a full stop.

It kind of seems like it happens when they get warmer as it doesn’t happen if I make a quick trip to Home Depot, but my work knows when I get there.

With new pads and rotors on, but still getting a squeal, where should I look next since it wasn’t the pads or rotors?

You sure it’s not coming from the rear?

    I won’t say it’s not, I can’t totally tell from the inside.

I have little knowledge with drum brakes though

Run down to the parts house and grab a couple of cans of brake cleaner and pull the rear drums and clean the brakes. At worst you clean them and it’s not that but your rear will be clean.

You could find a safe place and test using just the parking brake. That would only use the rear drums and help in determining if the drums are the culprit.

They’re probably due for a good cleaning either way.

good plan! Never crossed my mind, even considering how much tray sliding I may or may not have done in the past

Can’t get it to squeal only using the parking brake, seems like it’s either off or fully engaged. But the squealing goes away for a little after that so it might at least be pinpointed.

Did you clean and grease everything properly during the brake job? Clean and grease the caliper pins? Wipe off the oil from the brand new rotor with brake cleaner?

Definitely didn’t grease the pins, just the backs of the pads.

I'd bet that is your issue. Remove the pins, clean, grease, reassemble.

Also gives you the chance to look at everything again when you open the brakes back up. Check for any uneven wear or scoring. Did the brake pads and rotors you replaced show any signs of uneven wear?

I had the same problem on a Tundra I previously had. Brakes squealing before and after complete brake job. I then installed brake shoes/pads made of a different material than what had been on there. Problem solved.

All is even. Greased up the pins, but it wasn’t those.

Sorry, OP. Was hoping to help.

Friction/reverberation is happening somewhere it shouldn't. That's your noise

    Was there any uneven wear?

Forgot to add...did you seat the new brake pads?

I appreciate it. I’d have never thought to grease the pins.
