HI there, Im replacing the head gasket on my 2005 tacoma , #6 finally gave away. good compression on all other cylinders, but while Im in the process, here is some pics of my timing chain, looks like 1/4 link off. Tensioner is extended a little bit. 170,000miles , no codes thrown Would you replace or kept like it is? Thanks any info we be helpful.

Personally I would replace it if I was confident I wasn't going to screw up the timing. The chain itself isn't all that expensive. I'm sure others have more knowledge, maybe a forum search could yield more responses for you.

I would replace as much as I could afford to while I was down there!

If you like getting into the engine that deep and want to do it again, don't change it. BUT to be in that deep and be confident enough to go that far, engine timing should be the least of your worries.
It would be good to view the entire video, but advancing to about .44 minutes should enlighten you a bit.

I would not want to go back in there. I'd replace it, guides, etc.

In for a penny, in for a dollar.... OCV filters and maybe the valves themselves if they're nasty and don't move freely.

Injectors might not be flowing in spec....

    I'll stop now.

Good luck in fixing it!

I’d be more concerned with all that sludge.

I mean, why not? You gonna have to take it off anyway to remove the head. Rock Auto has some good kits. From what I've learned, just replace stuff while you in there to save you headache later.

Meh, our Tacoma's timing chain are not known to fail. Fix the HG and be done with it.

By the look of the cooking of the oil, the drain intervals, IMO, are too long.

Guides, tensioner, and chains. As well as OCV filters/screens.

Thanks, guys, im replacing it since im that deep into it finally all the parts have made it in, i had a valve job on both heads and cleaned everything up. But this Felpro head gasket set. take a look at the left head gasket. It is raised up on the bottom right hand side. The right head gasket is fine. Would you use this head gasket, as looks like its a 2 piece stainless steel. stamped together. You can press it down and closes up, but I do not want any problems as Im this deep into it. Thanks for any info. Once i finish the project I will upload pictures of the stages of assembling it back together.

It is called an MLS head gasket. Normal. Multi-layed steel.
