My driveway slopes downward too. I’ve tried parking in both directions to see if the water will drain elsewhere but it doesn’t. This morning I could hardly open my door so I went to the car wash and pressure washed it out with hot water. Then I came home and sprayed the area with Krown Rust Proofing spray and then used WD40 Spray and Stay Gel Lubricant to fill in the gap. The water freezing in that location happens on a regular basis. Probably been 20 times now. I was hoping there was an easy fix in the forum but I think all the sprays I used will keep water out

I couldn’t get into my truck for two days because of this ice buildup on both sides. Thankfully I had another vehicle to use. I probably could have forced it, but I didnt want to bend or crack paint off the doors. This also happened on the first winter I had my truck. The truck is parked perfectly level. My theory is the sunlight melts any snow and ice on the top of the truck on below freezing days and the water runs into those areas and freezes solid. Like almost crystal clear ice. It can go from no ice to a huge chunk in a day or two. My father has a second gen that gets some ice in there, but there is a little plastic flap in there that stops it from forming into a large chunk. Kind of a ridiculous issue. The cowl TSB has nothing to do with this. But a lot of ice builds up there too.

Just noticed this today and searched the forum and see it common. Which is good and bad. Good that other people have the problem but a very bad design.

I live in the rust belt and this screams rusting door, fender and rocker which is not good.

My 1st gen didn’t have this problem.

Did the dealer have any fixes for this? Seems like there isn’t anything.

Guys, i need someone to tell me it's not as bad as I think it is.

    Had the ice buildup for the first time and it looks like the corner of the door flexed a bit as the door creaked open. Like the truck is made out of play dough. Trying not to lose my mind;

It’s not bad at all. Doesn’t look like it flexed at all.

Here' passenger for comparsion. Running my fingers on it the passenger is flush while the drivers sticks out a bit. Its one of those things I cant unsee. So ridiculous some ice could cause this.

Still i will probably pass on paying for bodywork but still.

    It’s not bad.

This ice situation isn’t good. Gotta be a fix. Maybe just cutting some of that foam away will help let it drain. Once it warms up here I’ll be looking into it

I can’t see any damage. It looks all okay from those angles. I had opened my door atleast 20 times with the ice there and I never damaged my paint or bent the corner. But I wasn’t going to take the risk of damaging it by letting the ice keep forming all winter long.

I drove to work this morning and check both when getting into my truck and after I stepped out to see if the oil sprays worked and it did! No ice, no snow. I think this is the solution. Keep it lubed up so the water can’t adhere to the body panel/cowl.

It can be seen in this image, right where the downward body line leaves the door and transitions into the fender you can see the bend.

Here's a picture of the culprit. Solid, dense ice.

Called Tpyota who so far hust recited what is and isnt covered and they were leaning towards not covered but ultimately deferred to the dealer.

Still waiting to hear back from dealer on when they can take a look.

I have the same issue. Maybe apply some sort of grease or oil as some poster said? Gonna have to try this.

I try to break the ice off as often as I can so it doesn’t build

I can't even get in from the drivers side anymore, have to hop over the passengers seat.

This is beyond ridiculous, have a meeting with dealer tomorrow afternoon.

If dealer and Toyota tell me to kick rocks over I'll have to get the door repaired out of pocket. Any idea what this would cost?

That is really bad! You have it a lot worse then me.

Even after I sprayed the area on mine with Krown and WD40, I have ice building up. But it’s no where near what it used to be. I may have to pay the dealer a visit too!!!

Yeah, I had to chip the ice out of my truck today after opening the passenger door and having it creak and feel like a 40 year old G body door.

I have this ice buildup issue currently in my truck also. I'm going to try spraying some Krown in there like suggested here.

Also, 2 days ago my Wipers froze up in the upright position. Ran the truck for awhile with defrost on, wipers were trying to move back down. 2 days later, I put the truck out in the sun and finally got found my wiper arms were completely frozen all the way down to the bases. Never had this happen before. If it happens again, i will not run the truck, it puts a lot of extra strain on wiper arms/motor. It was bad.

Wow glad I found this thread and I’m not the only crazy one. I have put 0 effort into solving the issue, I hoped if it started rushing it would be covered by someone’s warranty (Toyota or Krown).
I even park nose uphill and still have lots of ice build up there during the freeze/thaw time of year.
Someone mentioned earlier on about VW’s doing this as well, and they do. VW just did the update on my car, (a 2012), I had to chip in a couple hundred bucks for the door repair but that was only 20% of the repair cost, so they said....
I’ve got to go in for the fuel pump in a few weeks, I’m gonna whine about this ice build up then....
