My first manual, started driving it around the neighborhood at 13 (35 now). Bought new when I was 3. It was much more stock back then. Sold it 3 years ago :(

Did you only sell it cause you were starting a family? It really seems like you never wanted to part with this thing man, especially after you told me how much it meant to you and your dad

That is sad. Seems like such a rad 4runner. My cousin had two of those 80s pick ups the other one was orange. He sold both of them because he needed the money. It's sucks when you have to let the stuff go that you love because of uncontrolled circumstances.

Yeah I needed to buy something that was more road and family friendly. I still do regret it though. I do think at some point I'll get back into something like it, maybe a bronco or Land Cruiser eventually.

Yeah that crappy part is that I didn't really need the money. But it wasn't being driven, it was just sitting and taking up space. I now regret not selling another one of my cars and keeping it but it also doesn't fit in my garage and I hated just letting it sit outside and not being used. The new owner drove down for Illinois and was shocked it had no rust so he decided he will never drive it in the winter there and keep it garaged. So I feel like its got a good new home.

I still regret selling my 85 SR5 4Runner 5spd too. Didn’t need money either. But same thing, it didn’t fit in the garage (unless tires were about 5psi). I picked it up in CA, replaced the long block and nearly every accessory planning to keep it forever. Air Force training dorms and a succession of small issues I couldn’t fix without a garage led to its departure. Some dude from Maryland shipped it up there.

I bought a new 2014 6spd Taco to replace it and quickly found that to be a mistake when I got to ATL. Those 2nd gens have too short of a 1st and too tall of a 2nd. Synchros are funky too, bc you can’t downshift into 1st till you’re going like 5mph. Made the Northern 285 hell in rush hour.96F6D7CF-5323-4336-83A0-89E81E2BC6BB.jpg

I learned to drive stick in a different 1st Gen 4Runner. Miss that one too!

I'm still looking and thinking about lifting the new truck. I noticed on the headstrong site the rear 5100 has more travel than the 5160. Wouldn't that make it a better shock choice since I'm not out trying to run 50 mph on washboard and woops?

I think that's bc it's the extended length 5100 which is longer than the regular 5100 which has 22.94in travel. I'm not sure though.
    Edit
    Standard specs

I'm thinking about going with the bilstien 6112 on the front. Doing a whole new leaf pack on the rear. A low profile c4 bumper with my 10k smittybilt. Weld on 4x innovations sliders. So the spots I need to figure out is what front spring rate, what rear shocks, and what leaf pack. I basically spend all my free time at work between helping people window shopping for parts for my truck. But as I discover more options I run into more trouble making decisions.

    I'll help.

2015 truck. Front: 6112s, 5th clip, 700 lb coils, Camburg UCAs, Pelfreybilt bumper, Warn VR10, no sway bar. Rear: 5160s, Deaver heavy spring pack, Firestone air bags, Daystar cradles.

I have a shell, interior drawer system, and tow a teardrop (hence the airbags.)

The front is good. I have a set of Hammer Hangers to install in the rear, and I need longer shocks.

So, do I get a commission? LOL

Sounds like a really solid set up. Are you happy with the ride quality? I I assume I wont need 700 up front since I wont have a full plate bumper. I only want two inches of lift to avoid wearing out axle boots. I did do the boot slide on in my last truck but avoiding that seems better. Plus not having to upgrade UCA's. I wont have that much weight on the rear so just the heavy duty springs should work right?

a lot of bad ass stuff
i never heard of hammer hangers until recently. To be honest I haven’t had much time to look into them. What are they, how/what do they help/benefit, and how does one determine if they would benefit their truck?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
How ya like the bracket I did up for my SPOD controls.
Even notched it to fit my TPAM!

    @Stormpeacock
Would like to get with you on that tune.
I put 5.29s but would like to see how that tune changes things up a bit.
