I purchased my '19 TRD OR back in March of 2019. As a stock truck it was okay but nothing to rave about. A midsize truck capable of midsize work. After coming across Orange Virus Tuning and having a discussion with a friend in Indy racing, I made the investment in the vf tuner. I was hoping the 2.0 tunes would erase a lot of my disappointment in the trucks ability to turn some heavy wheel/tire combinations. It helped but I was somewhat unsure if I was running the correct tune for the weight of the wheels.

Along comes @PapaRee and my truck is now something enjoyable to get behind the wheel of. He started me off with his Kruiser tune for a 04B31 ECU and the performance was noticeable. At his recommendation I went through the process of updating the ECU to 04B33 and flashing his Kruiser tune. What a difference it has made. My truck has close to the same responsiveness that my wife's VW Passat has. It is now a pleasure to drive and merging into freeway traffic doesn't take stomping on the accelerator. The truck now seems to be eager to get up and go or just plain cruise with the traffic flow. I no longer feel like a speed bump in the middle of the road.

On a recent trip from Indianapolis to Denver and back along I70, running vf tuner's Reg 33 2.0 tune, the truck struggled to keep it's gear at speeds of 65-75. The slightest uphill grade caused a downshift to 5th and often 4th. Thus far from what I can see the Kruiser tune has quite a bit more to offer than the stock tunes from Orange Virus. (This is not a complaint. Just a layman's observation.)

For those who purchased a Tacoma and may be considering buyer's remorse, I strongly encourage you to invest in your truck with a tuner and find the tune which will make your truck fit your needs. I wonder how many Tacoma's would be in the used car lot if not for the time, effort and expertise of those contributing to the cause here on Tacoma World. I thank you all.

Hey folks...I'm looking for a little bit of clarity on all this tuning goodness. I just read through all the developments for the 04b04 ecu on page 1. I see that most are, "All based off 04B04, Regular Gas, Stock gears, and 33" tires" unless otherwise note.

I know Matt originally programmed the OV 2.0 variations to accommodate the nuances of gearing/tire/gas/etc. That said, is there anything detrimental that could happen if the stock gears/33 tune is applied to a truck that has 4.88s/31.6s? Maybe a better way to put it...does the base map file really matter, or is just a reference to what the tune started with?

Mat's base map was a start of all these the custom tunes for 04B04 and others. Mat's 2.0 tunes are better than stock BUT there was a lot of room to improve. @Mooseditty17, @PapaRee, @TWTaco, and others built off of the base 2.0 tune and some are awesome! I got the tune stuff myself because I didn't want to get a tune from someone and be 1 and done. I am able to modify the tune for my liking and my truck weight. 2.0 is better than stock BUT there are custom tunes out there better than the 2.0.

    Will do

Thanks! I'm familiar with the process, been running OV 2.0 since last summer. Now I'm trying to decide which tune to pull down and flash this weekend.

I think maybe I should be more specific. Is there any problem with loading the MD.87_Mild+Wild_3.1 tune to a truck with 4.88s and 265/70/17?

Edit: Nm - @GoldenBrew has me covered.

Negative. Shift points may be a little different than if you didn't have gears, but won't hurt anything.

Need a little help getting my tablet to work with vF. I cannot flash anything with it. I can open the stock file for my ecu and poke around, but when I try to flash I got nothing. The "flash it!" button is greyed out.

The tablet lets me do anything I want to in Techstream, so it's not a driver issue with Tactrix or anything like that. It's something I am missing in vF ....

Welp, I got a version of it from @GoldenBrew adjusted for my tire size and 4.88s. I just took it for a 20 mile loop from my house...hot damn, this tune is fun.

It has to be registered to flash. Have you registered it before. You can only have one computer registered.

That I have not done. Had no idea that was actually a thing! HA !
What I do know, is that the tablet is communicating with the mothership because it subtracted 4 credits when I unlocked my ECU......

So how do I go about registering this tablet and de-registering my laptop?

In the past, you would have to send OVtune an email with the computer/tablet's ID and he would send you a registration file.
But starting soon (like this weekend), there is supposed to be a simpler way--by just updating the software on your tablet, enter your info and it will be ready to flash.
For you, this will probably be the fastest way.
