Since the VCT solenoid is a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) solenoid that regulates oil pressure into and out of the phaser (adjustable intake cam gear), the only thing this can really do is alter that oil flow by having the ports repositioned from OE locations and/or increasing/decreasing the port volume there by changing the intake cam timing and rate of change assuming the port volume is altered.

If you don't have ECU access, this is a way that you could tweak the VVTi mapping, albeit crudely, as there's no way to know how much of a change you're making by altering the port timing/sizing.

If you do have ECU access, you're probably better off telling the ECU what cam angles you want, and when.

 

Hard to say. Read through the PDF, and they use a stronger spring and magnet. Might also have a change in the ports. We assume quicker reaction and higher pressures used.

 

Will this give me vtec all the time?

 

I kind of think of it like in my ford powerstroke. To make it easy for explaining the oil pump does both the lubrication and fueling. On the fuel side the oil applies pressure to the injectors. More pressure equals more fuel and more fuel means more power. In the 1gr the vvti has fixed rates or how far and fast it'll work so I'm not sure honestly how it'll respond. It could be positive or could equal zero. I haven't looked hard at it as I'm trying to warm up in tx but thought it was cool to share.

Q/C hubs and pulleys are designed to work/fit together. Unless something's changed URD's 2.8 pulley is a standalone solution, that's incompatible with a Q/C setup. How do you plan to mix/match these things?

 

URD's quick change pulley perhaps?

 

I forgot they offered that. Showing my age, I guess.

Do they also have other size Q/C pulleys for their hub, or is their hub the same config as Smoothflow and Pulley Boys?

yah big and red and URD specific which is a bummer since the others are a bit interchangeable to some point (with some shims)

 

Thanks, guys. I haven't spent much time or money on URD stuff in recent years because I prefer less "conspicuous" pulleys and Gadget's become such a curmugeon.
