Been looking at millions of pics and threads and my goal is to get 17x8.5 or 9 inside without any poking out. I want to be able to look down the side of my truck and the tire does not stick out past the fenders on my 2021 Sport 4x4. It appears from what I see 0mm offset is close and -12mm is the opposite of what I wanted. Tire size is yet to be determined but I will have truck leveled 2in in front and 1.5 in back so probably go a little smaller than a 33. Thanks for any help!

That looks like a -10 offset with a 265 width tire, its poking out around 3/4 inch. if you went with a wheel like a SCS 8.5 wide with -10 then you would want a 255 80 17 to keep it even with the fender flare.

the -10 with a 265 is outside the fender for sure, if you go with a 255 85 16 or 255 80 17 to get a 33inch you will be pretty even. If you can go with a 0 offset and a 265 should be even with the fender.

Okay so lets say I want to run damn near close to a 33 that means it would push it out past the fender considerably. I don't mind a tiny tire bulge past the fender but def not the knobs going out past it.

Idk know yet theres a lot. So, just going off the wheel diameter, back spacing and width and offset to know what will look how I want it to look. Once I figure that out I can then find rims that meet that criteria

A lot of combinations for sure. Could stay stock wheels with a wider tire like the picture above. But with an 8.5 to 9in wheel, keep an eye on recommended tire specs and vise versa. You may need to go wider to keep it in spec so staying near 0 offset may be better if you dont want them sticking out too far. I just ordered a pair a TRD SEMA wheels at 17x7. They are not 0 offset but less than my stock. Running a 245 Toyo AT3 tire with wheel spacers so should give me what I want without being too far out. Mostly important because of load rating.

7in wheel is right in the middle for my size tire.

Interesting. Yeah. I don't want them sticking out at all. Just in line with the fender is fine. Seems like going to need to keep looking at a million pics to find what looks about right

Yep, basically. If flush with your fenders is what you want, which does keep the gravel off your paint, then 0 offset at max is what you probably should go with. At max being the furtherest out they stick... Tire sizing numbers are weird. My SEMA wheels by Toyota are 4mm offset compared to stock. Below is the description.

4-mm. wheel offset widens the overall vehicle track width by 0.9-in. (22-mm.)

But I assume I also need to account for the back spacing of the rim?

If you want to keep the tire/wheel tucked in, you will probably need to go with a 7.5" wide wheel at the most. The offset or backspacing refers to how much of the wheel sits inside the centerline so the width of the wheel will really determine how much it sticks out. A 9" wide wheel with 0 offset will stick out .5" farther than an 8" wide wheel with 0 offset. And saying you want a 33" tire doesn't talk about the tire width either, a 305, 285 or 255 wide tire all can be had around 33" tall. The 285 or 305 will stick out because of how wide they are. Your best bet will probably be going with Toyota wheels around 7.5" wide and a 255/80/17 tire. With an 8.5" wide wheel, you would need an offset around 6 or around 5" of backspacing.

7.5 Is too skinny I’ll prob go with an 8.5 or 8. It will fit I just gotta get the right numbers and if the tire bulges a little
Past fender I’m okay with that. Thank you!

Here's a picture of my truck with a 285/75/16 tires on 16x8 wheels with 0 offset 4.5" backspacing. The tires bulge out some but if you went with a 265 or narrower, it would be even less with the 8" wide wheel.

    Tacoma_2013_16x8.jpg

And for comparison, here is the truck with 305/65/17 tires on 17x8.5 wheels with -10 offset which is closer to 4.25" backspacing. Both tires are around 32.8" height so basically 33's.

Thank you for posting that! Yeah, looks like the tread is right on the edge with the bulge of the tire sticking out.

A 17x8, 0 offset wheel might be your best option.
