I live in Indiana, so we see some moderately cold weather. Not extreme like some ares of the US, but for example the current cold spell, we haven't been above 25 degrees for 10 days.

Just wanted to say, those are really good lists. I would add consider installing either natural gas or LP space heater(s). You can get ones which don't need electricity, or that come with blowers. The units are pretty inexpensive at $2-300. I got mine at Lowes, but of course Amazon has them.

I use 2 natural gas ones for cheap zone heating, even when the power is on. Keeps my furnace from running so much and lowers gas bill. If power goes out, they keep me plenty warm.

    Thanks!

Yeah most houses and utilities down here are not built IMO for these extended low temps, or to handle the snow/ice load we had this week.

A little something every chance we get.
Well, that took a little while, but most of it was in line at the first stop. Lockhart got bottled water from the State, and was distributing at the Jr. High, so I went and got in line. It was long, and I got to watch a Dodge 4x4 rescue a stock F150 from the side of the road while waiting. On the way in, West side of the road I was on was fine. East side was glare smoothed ice and slush. On the way out, East was 90% cleared off!
Onward to the egg farm - got 7 /12 dozen for less than $10, so the wife could give some to the neighbors. That was a no problem drive at all!
So, drop off and head to a packed Walmart - they'd had power failures and water lines broken (as well as the no water situation); all perishable foods were long gone, and freezers and coolers in the process of being cleaned. Veggies gone to; looked like they had cleaned that. One 12 pack of Shiner Blondes was saved for me in the front cooler that wasn't cool anymore! Got everything I needed except for distilled water for my CPAP, but I will use bottled if I run out.
Went by HEB, and that lot was full, but I doubt they had much in yet - no semis in back, and their freezers/coolers had lost power as well. Turns out, we are apparently one small section of town that never lost power! Back home again, and headed outside to clean up some stuff to prep for tonight.

We're on gas lines for heat, stove, and hot water - so really can't protect that, but a whole house generator back up is definitely a consideration for this summer. Ideally, a gas fired/gasoline option, as I can have gas piped outside, and would not have to worry about gasoline.
Always have filled up vehicles when I see storms coming, so that is just memory.
Even though my drips on the outdoor faucets got me though with no issues, I have some plans to do better prep that can be easily put in place.
Going to hardwire up a box up on the solar, run de-ice cables across the panels themselves to prevent the snow and ice build up. Drop down a WP cable I can plug in when needed. (Oddly enough, the North roof melted off and didn't have as much faster than the South with all the black solar!)
The greenhouse is a different story, and I won't know until I open it up how things did. It's primary job is to house the pool plants, and the Palram definitely made me trade "pretty" for warmer and ugly. I used way more power out there than I'd like.
I think I am going to rig up a secondary hose based system for watering in the greenhouse, so I can use the hose, and not have to try and heat the shed. Should not be that hard.
Remember to fill the grill propane tanks, even though I never used them during this.

Extra blankets for covering windows & doors.
Torch to help thaw things out. (Jetboil works in a pinch)

    Glad I had:
    Windshield cover for truck.
-never needed to worry about chipping ice/snow off windows or mirrors

Lol nah no need for heated seats, though mine has it I think I have used them once since owning the truck. It was a used truck so didn’t pick it’s features.
