Tech changes, it’s the nature of the beast. Automatics were the rage when they were new, as were chariots and steam powered buggy’s in their day. When you are finally forced to get behind the wheel of an etaco and go 0-60 in 4 seconds or go over landing with massive torque and no need for spare fuel(just some charge panels while you nap) it might not seem so bad. Chances are manual transmissions will be outlawed because they shift too slowly and piss off everyone behind them causing inch worm traffic motion from uneven acceleration. Every new era is the end of something older. I’ll miss them, sure, I got my current 5M party out of nostalgia for my first 2 vehicles since the 3rd(automatic) wasn’t really an improvement, but having grown up with piss poor air quality and seeing it improved with emissions standards only to degrade again with massive numbers of vehicles I’d rather go forward than back.

I'm fully supportive of the move to electric for reasons of global sustainability. But just like I'd choose the slower MT Porsche GT3 over the PDK, I have this irrational, nostalgic pull to keep on driving MT's and to keep imagining me out there driving one of the last MT ICE trucks on the road. I must be getting old.

I understand they share some componentry, but I thinks it’s a stretch to call the Ranger the pickup version of the New Bronco.

I think he meant that there would not be a Bronco pickup, but there is some development going on there.

That said, the next gen Ranger will share the Bronco platform.

I really don't understand this electric push. The events in Tx this past week should be justification enough not to do it. It isn't like there is an abundance of electricity. Increasing the demand will undoubtedly increase the price. Not to mention that globally that electricity is not as cheap as it is in the US and that is for reason.

As for the manual tranny, good riddance. Technology has eliminated the need to operate a silly lever. You can still make 'vroom vroom" sounds and pretend to be jamming gears like they do in movies it that gets you stiff.

Just because America is not as prepared as they should be does not mean tech should not progress because of one singular event lol. ARE YOU SAYING THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF FOSSIL FUELS???? There is by far more electricity to be produced...…..
edit: and over the past year with covid and more recent Texas just shows what a shit show America is at being prepared for things.... need to get it together

I had the last model year Colorado before they dumped the 6MT in 2019. I miss it. Needed long box and full back doors.

Got an OR and quickly found out they don’t make that configuration with manual, and special ordering was also out of the question.

Have to disagree with you on all points. We're always adding more capacity to the grid and will continue to do so as consumption increases whether or not that's from EVs. Pricing will vary as supply and demand counteract each other. Globally much of the pricing is tax related, not free market related.

And as for the MT, it's about the fun not the function. I'd say you're missing out.

The Bronco Sport is primarily a front-drive platform (and completely separate from the regular Bronco). From what I have read, the Maverick is going to be a pickup version of the Bronco Sport and will be available in FWD versions as well as 4WD.......if someone has already posted this info, apologies for the redundancy.

I bought my Taco last year after having a Mazda3 hatch with a manual for 10 years. It was the most fun car I've ever owned. Slow, but so well balanced that it never mattered. The smile on the front bumper matched the smile on your face.

I think in general there is a fundamental change coming in automobiles and we are just at the beginning of that change. GM is going all electric by 2035 (cars and SUV's) Ford is going all electric in Europe by 2030. Sure trucks are going to be the last to go, but Ford is pretty far along on its all electric F-150, not to mention all of the startups like Rivian and Bollinger. Gas cars are going away and that is a good thing, evolution is a good thing. I would not enjoy my morning commute if I had to ride a horse to work.

More good info. I was posting about the other Bronco platform, but the Bronco Sport and Maverick cousins are going to be a thing also. Something that size should get a lot of folks very happy.

I can see my evil plan to start a thread that creates a toxic mix of Manual vs Automatic, electric vs ICE, Bronco vs Tacoma, with a debate about climate change as a kicker, is working. Now, if only we could work in an angle on assault rifles...

For what it is, our 2.0 skyactiv is pretty quick. Probably a bit too quick for a 17yr old. But the lightness and handling are as good as I have felt for a FWD and better than many RWDs.

The thing that gets me excited for EVs is the heavy regen braking. That gives me the level of control that I have with the MT and can abide. The Bollinger is absolutely killer. What that develops into over time or whatever nuclear-option that Toyota comes out with would be my target.
