I was bugging you. I know you weren't implying that. My point was more that we are here because lots of shit died in pretty horrific ways. It's a sad consolation that the odds favor something else dominating the planet other than us at some point in the relatively near future. We have the power to change our fate, more so than any other organism by several magnitudes, but we may lack to cohesion as a society to do something about whatever tries to kill us off.

Gaia hypothesis, well the neo version, is likely true. When something fucks up the planet, something else will probably replace it that likes the fuck up.

    Yep.

I’ve been subbed to PBS Eons since they started. Fantastic stuff. I wish they’d get funded for a regular show.

The real correlation is linked to whale farts. Too much plankton in the diet.

    Massive, massive whale farts.

    The science says so.

My problem with plankton is that they are hard to eat with a fork.

This is conspiracy theory spread around by Rock Lobsters and has no basis in fact. Let's keep this thread about science, please.

You basically just described how I feel about climate change. Pollution is a real problem. But our ability to change the climate is drastically overestimated. The earth is a continually evolving ball, and we don't possess the technology to make it uninhabitable to life. I include the overly feared nuclear arsenal in that list, of which we have detonated over 2,000. And yet we have seen a degree of temperature increase over the last 100 years. We'll ignore the fact that 100 years ago they were measuring with equipment that was an order of magnitude less accurate and reliable, and the records no where near as complete or detailed. :stirthepot:

That's quite similar to the daily capsules my doc has me on for cholesterol control. I did learn to take it at night so I don't go all day with fish breath.

Numbers are perfect, and I still eat eggs and beef.

Still...what does planting a tree have to do with phytoplankton? They should plant kelp or sargasso or something.

In the end it doesn't matter if it's right or wrong.the solutions were pursuing for climate change and pollution are virtually the same. We don't have anywhere near the power to affect volcanoes, meteors, or tectonic shifts.

Nothing about it in the coc. And it is science themed discussion. As long as people remain civil and avoid politics it will probably be fine.

I wrote a paper for a Biogeography Grad class years ago on the Australian faunal region, spanning the Permian period to present day.

I wish I would have been smart enough to tie the Laschamp event to Australian megafauna extinction. I would have got an A and life would be so much different now.

That's as far as I'm going to go on the topic, no bans.

I do want to clarify, I'm not a denier. I just have doubts as to how much we contribute to the natural change that has happened for billions of years. It is a process we do need to study though if we ever want to do things like terraforming the moon, mars, and beyond. But I'll drop it there since y'all are scared.

You may live long enough to upload your conscience to computer with neuralink. From there it shouldn't be much longer before a company like Boston Dynamics has a good selection of robot bodies you can choose. You could enjoy the show FOREVER!!!!
