License plate light Disable while In Reverse (DIR)

You might as well spend it on mods, there is no ammo to be bought.

 

I didn't see this question so I guess I will ask. Will this work with the meso LED taillights? I have been looking through the pics and questions and didn't notice anyone asking.

 

This mod turns your license plates off when you select reverse so you can see better with the back-up camera.

It does not interact with tail lights, OEM or MESO, just the license plate lights.

 

Put a different way, it connects upstream from the total tail harness for the tap of the reverse connector.

For now, yes. Should have the batch squared away soon, working on some immediate priorities right this moment and should have those wrapped today and then I can get back to finishing the batch.

Tentative plan is to do 2nd batch of 40. I'm not sure how ambitious that may be but I have purchased 43 of the most elusive connector as preparation. I don't intend to make anyone wait excessively long b/c I'm impatient about my mods too

 

I ran into a situation with my MEX made 2017 TRDOR DCLB where the stud to mount the relay is about 6" higher than the above picture shows where to mount. That caused the harness to be too short when following the directions; "Feed the longer end of the harness through the hole at the bottom where the factory harness exits the tailgate cavity".

I ended up feeding that harness through the vertical round hole that is right behind the housing which ended up being working out very well.

 

Waiting for a quality product is always worth the wait.

I may pee myself waiting but it will be OK!

 

Thank you for this feedback. I’m not sure we ever did a test fit on a DCLB, assuming it would be the same.

If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind gathering a measurement of how long it should be if you routed it exactly how you’d want it? I can probably swap you out at a later date with a long version. You’d be helping the community as well if others encounter the same.

Don't want to piss in anyone's cereal, but...

Why not just Turn Your Headlights Off when backing up? That turns off your plate light.

 

Agreed on the various alternatives. Turn off lights manually. DIY with an unsealed relay and T taps + butt connectors. Use very low output bulbs. Many ways to get the job done without spending much or anything at all. The DIY thread is where that discussion is best continued.

I think the ridiculousness of the DIR harness is part of the appeal for me. Then the mounting stud right there just screaming to be used. The easy install with just a 10mm wrench and some zip ties. There is a fun factor for me which matches my enjoyment of the tailgate lock harness. None of this is a necessary or critical piece of gear. But each little piece makes my truck a bit more unique. I mean, shoot, the chrome delete vent rings are just about as ridiculous a thing to spend on but I look at them and I smile for some silly, inexplicable, illogical reason.

My truck mostly sits in the driveway. I have nowhere to go during the day and I rarely drive at night. I most definitely do not need this mod.

But I do like it a lot.

 

Sometimes... just because I can...or I just wanted to... is all the excuse needed.
